Xiaomi’s Mi Max tablet hits stores in China

If big is best, you’ll love Xiaomi’s newly announced Mi Max phablet that straddles the borderline between phablet and tablet.

The Mi Max sports a massive 6.55-inch 1080p display up front sheathed in 2.5D glass, dwarfing almost anything in the line and also packs their Sunlight Display sensor that adapts the display on a per pixel basis for legibility even under bright sunlight. While you’d reckon that a display that large would have a battery life measured in double digits, the Mi Max bucks the trend by cramming in a large 4,850mAh battery that is rated for 14 hours of video. Paired with this is a Snapdragon 650 or 652 processor, 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB of expandable storage via a microSD card slot. The rear comes with a 16-MP camera with PDAF and it also sports a fingerprint sensor too.Mi Max_01

Despite its size, the Mi Max is surprisingly svelte and light. It measures in at 7.5mm while its metal casing weighs in at 203g. That’s quite a feat.

The phone will come in three variants. The Mi Max with a Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM will retail for RMB1,499 (about RM928). The Snapdragon 652 variant with 3GB RAM and 64GB storage will retail for RMB1,699 (about RM1,052) and the most powerful variant with a Snapdragon 652 chip and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage will retail for RMB1999 (about RM1,237). There’s no confirmed dates for a Malaysia launch as yet but if you’re fairly resourceful you’ll be able to source it from online retailers after its official launch in China on May 17. We’ll keep you posted on updates for a Malaysia launch if it occurs.
