BenQ’s new lamp is most enlightening indeed
While BenQ is best known for making monitors, they’re also making forays into all things visual with their latest effort being a reading lamp that’s optimised for reading not only stuff printed on dead trees but e-books as well be it on your smartphone, monitor display or tablet. Dubbed the WiT e-reading lamp, BenQ’s resembles an art deco sculpture what with its unusually curved LED lamp but it’s as functional as it is good looking.
A hard wearing powdered white finish glazes the entire lamp while an articulated series of springs and joints across an over-engineered aluminium frame allows you to angle it in almost any direction without the whole affair wobbling or keeling over.
The curved shape of the lamp itself isn’t just for looks alone as there’s actually science behind its design. The WiT’s gently curved lamp design is designed to offer a more even, brighter pool of light at up to 1800 Lux. Because the light is evenly distributed, it eliminates the usual glare when reading off a shiny display as opposed to a conventional lamp that focuses it in a beam. It’s also surprisingly smart too. A built-in light sensor just behind the lamp senses the ambient light when you tap it and the lamp then adjusts its brightness for optimum viewing while a knob lets you finetune the brightness and warmth of the light from a colour temperature of a yellowish warm 2700K to a whitish cool 5700K as you so desire. The BenQ WiT LED lamp is available at all Benq dealers nationwide for RM899 in five different colours – gold, silver, blue, red and green.
