DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom land in Malaysia
Drone manufacturer DJI has just launched their latest range of commercial drones in Malaysia. Dubbed the Mavic 2 series, DJI’s newest drone line-up consists of the new Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom, both of which have an ultra-compact form factor and a enhanced flight performance and image capture capabilities.
Externally, the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro are built with a similar quad-rotor airframe with an underslung camera mount with the Mavic 2 Zoom integrating a zoom lens camera while the Mavic 2 Pro has an integrated Hasselblad camera with both cameras integrating an ultra-stable three-axis mechanical gimbal for stable image capture with the ability to capture 4K video using the H.265 codec.
The Mavic 2 Zoom integrates a 12-MP ½.3-inch CMOS sensor with a 24-48mm lens with 4x lossless zoom while the Mavic 2 Pro has a 20-MP 1-inch Hasselblad L1D-20c camera with an adjustable aperture from f/2.38 – f/11.
The Mavic 2 platform has a maximum speed of 72kph, about half an hour of flight time and has a series of ten sensors spaced all around the airframe that allows it to sense and avoid obstacles both in front and behind it. The aforementioned top speed is only available in Sports Mode though object collision avoidance is disabled in this mode.
More subtle enhancements to the Mavic 2 airframe are a host of new intelligent flight modes to make cinematic pro-grade shots a lot easier. The new drones have the option to circle a target, stick on a fixed target while flying in a straight line or follow a series of waypoints. Of note is the inclusion of an ActiveTrack 2.0 autotrack mode that uses the main camera and dual front vision cameras to actively map the immediate area around it and actively predict and avoid incoming obstacles. This is augmented by an enhanced Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) that helps novices avoid obstacles without stopping. For low light use, the Mavic 2 drones have an auxiliary light on the underside that turns on for safer landings.
The Mavic 2 series drones also have what they call an OcuSync 2.0 video transmissions system with stronger resistance against interference and the ability to switch between 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequency bands to deliver feeds at 1080p at up to an 8km distance.
Mavic 2 Pro comes with the drone, battery, remote controller, charger and four pairs of propellers for RM6,599 inclusive of SST. The Mavic 2 Zoom has a similar inventory that comes with the drone for RM5,699 inclusive of SST. There is also an optional Fly More Kit that throws in a pair of additional batteries, a charging hub, a car charger, a battery to power bank adapter, a pair of propellers and a carrying bag for RM1,399 . Both drones are available from late September via all ECS Astar Sdn Bhd authorised dealers nationwide.
