Sony Xperia 1 up for preorders at a princely price tag matching the Galaxy Note10+

For the foreseeable future, the airwaves will likely be dominated with the presence of Samsung’s most powerful phone in the market, the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ but Sony is looking to throw their hat in the ring with the announcement of a preorder for their Xperia 1 phone that intends to offer a similarly premium flagship experience with prices to match.

For the princely price of RM4,299, Sony is offering their Xperia 1 up for preorder starting today till 6 October 2019. If you plonk down your plastic, Sony is throwing in their highly desirable WH-1000XM3 headphones that are worth RM1,599 on the house with every preorder, while stocks last. At this price point, it exceeds the Galaxy Note 10+ that retails for RM4,199 and which has markedly better specifications.

For your money, RM4,299 still gets you Sonýs most powerful phone which has their traditional expertise in display quality as a cornestone of its design. This adds up to a large 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with 100% DCI-P3 colour accuracy and a 21:0 aspect ratio along with a smattering of enhancements from their Bravia TV range including their X1 for mobile engine tech that brings in HDR remastering for content. 

Impressive looking display aside, it comes a Snapdragon 855 octacore processor running Android Pie 9.0 with 6GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage via a hybrid SIM card slot. 

The rear comes with a triple camera array that consists of a 12-MP Exmor RS F/1.6 camera, a secondary 12-MP camera with a wide angle lens and a third 12-MP camera with 2x optical zoom. The front comes with an 8-MP camera for selfies. Keeping it powered is a 3,300mAh battery crammed into an IP65/68 water resistant chassis. 

For Malaysia, you can opt to order the Xperia X1 in purple, grey or black with the phone slated to arrive in retail stores from early October 2019 onwards though you can catch a glimpse of it at Sony Expo 2019 taking place on 30 August at Midvalley mall in Kuala Lumpur.

As far as prices go the Xperia 1 is certainly being bold with its rather high price tag though the addition of their desirable pair of headphones as a preorder bonus will likely tempt former stalwart loyalists to give the brand a chance.
