The revamped Asus ZenPower Pro is a power bank on steroids

While the new Asus ZenFone 3, the Transformer Pro 3 notebook and the insidiously cute ZenBo robot took the limelight at Computex 2016, Asus also quietly took the wraps off updated versions of their eminently practical ZenPower range of power banks.

The beefed up ZenPower Pro power bank has the dimensions of a deck of cards and integrates a 10,050mAh battery while weighing 230g; that’s slightly heavier than a soda can. On paper, the ZenPower Pro is able to fully charge an iPhone 6’s 1,810mAh battery 3.7 times and their ZenFone 2 which has a 3,000mAh integrated battery twice.20160630_164456

The most immediate improvement in the ZenPower Pro is that it now has dual USB ports with both ports supporting Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 tech so you can juice up two devices simultaneously at speed, assuming it has Quick Charge 2.0 support that is. The fast charging tech on the ZenPower Pro means that it’ll charge compatible kit much faster. A ZenFone 2 that supports Fast Charging tech charged by the ZenPower Pro can get a 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Handy if you’re in a hurry.20160630_164612

It also comes with an integrated LED  torchlight which has a battery life of a good 100 plus or so hours on average which rounds up to four plus days of constant use before you need to charge the power bank. It also has a high-intensity mode for finding stuff, like say, your car keys in the dark and a low-power mode too for general illumination so you don’t stub your toe by accident during a brownout.

Lest you have worries about it being made of dodgy tech that may just conk off halfway or blow up in your pants pocket, Asus has had the hardware tested so that it meet the exactingly high demands asked of JEITA. It also has certification from almost every important certifying body that matters on the globe. You can check out the complete list here.

Unlike dodgier devices out in the market, Asus has stated that the ZenPower Pro has a host of protective tech built-in that ensures that the battery stays in one piece from all manner of common electrical device mishaps. They have also been rated to survive an 80cm drop test; which is is about the distance from your pants pocket to the floor and survive about 5000 USB plug insertion-and-removal attempts as well as being able to continue working in blazing hot 70°C or a chilly  -40° without bricking itself. Good to know if you ever have to use it in the Sahara or the Arctic.

The ZenPower Pro is now available at all good retailers nationwide or online at Asus Malaysia’s online store for RM129 in your choice of silver, black or pink. If you have ravenous needs for power, you can also opt for the ZenPower Pro’s larger sibling, the ZenPower Ultra that retails for RM249 and which offers double the battery power at 20,100mAh and, of course, double the weight at 420g.
