Heads Up – Netflix now available in Malaysia from RM33 a month!

Previously, if you wanted to enjoy Netflix, you had to jump through quite a few hoops as it wasn’t available locally in Malaysia and quite a few other countries. No longer. Several hours ago, Netflix Chief Executive Reed Hastings gave a keynote at CES 2016 where he announced that Netflix will be available in more than 130 countries across the globe including Malaysia.

The service is free for a month before you have to pony up a monthly subscription fee which starts from RM33 a month for the basic package that lets you watch it on one device at a time but not in HD or UHD resolution. Fork out RM42 a month and you can watch videos in HD on up to two devices at a time. Splash out RM51 a month and you get the whole shebang – Ultra HD video playback and the ability to play video on up to four devices at a time.

There’s some caveats of course before you make a beeline for it. While there’s a ton of content on the local version of Netflix, licensing agreements and whatnot means it won’t necessarily reflect the full breadth and depth of content that you’d enjoy on the US version. The other interesting quibble is that you can’t save videos offline unlike iFlix. That aside, there’s still a ton of content to go through including Netflix exclusives like Narco, Daredevil and Jessica Jones which you can have a quick look at in the trailer below.
