Toyota’s compact Sienta MPV is ready to roll from RM93K
The new Sienta made its official debut today in Malaysia and rolls off from Toyota’s production plants in Indonesia in two different flavours – the higher end Sienta 1.5V and the mainstream Sienta 1.5G.
Both versions come in six different colours and sport a similar 1.5l four-cylinder engine with Dual VVT-i with the ability to kick out 107ps @ 6000rpm with 140Nm@4,200rpm of torque paired to a 7-speed Sport Sequential Shiftmatic transmission.
Externally, the Sienta exudes a rather fun, sporty aesthetic with quite a few modern conveniences within. Three rows of seating let you cram in seven modestly sized chaps with the passenger seats able to be reconfigured for longer or wider sized cargo.
The Sienta also includes powered slider doors for passengers though the more modestly specced Sienta 1.5G only has it on the left side. The slider doors also have sensors that will stop movement if resistance is detected to avoid getting your fingers pinched when sliding the doors. Better yet, the left sliding door won’t open if you pop open the fuel cap for safety reasons.
Other differences with the higher end 1.5V variant compared to the lower specced G primarily revolve around the trimmings, with the 1.5V coming with 16-inch alloy wheels, a 3-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel, a Smart Entry & Start system, LED positioning lights and a digital video recorder mounted in the car for safety reasons in case you prang your ride. Other mod-cons for the 1.5V include a 6.8-inch touchscreen display hooked to a 2-DIN Head Unit DVD player entertainment system. The more affordable 1.5G variant comes with 15-inch rims, ditches the Smart Entry & Start System and has a 3-spoke wheel sheathed in synthetic urethane and it sports a 2-DIN CD player sans touchscreen. If you so desire you can upgrade the stock audio system in the Sienta 1.5G to the higher end DVD-AVX system that is installed as standard in the 1.5V for extra dosh.
Safety doesn’t take a backseat on the Sienta and it has Vehicle Stability COntrol (VSC) and Hillstart-Assist Control (HAC) along with two frontal SRS airbags and a third airbag under the steering wheel to keep your kneecaps in one piece for both variants. The 1.5G costs RM92,900 on-the-road with insurance while the 1.5V costs RM99,900 OTR with a 5 year warranty tacked on with unlimited mileage.
