Redmi Note 17 series launched in Malaysia; prices start from RM849

Xiaomi has officially launched their latest Redmi Note 17 series that consists of the Redmi Note 17, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G. The most powerful design, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G features exceptional durability in terms of water resistance and drop proofing with the ability to survive up to 3 metre drops along with an absolutely massive 10,000mAh battery. Here’s how all three stack up on paper and how much they cost in Malaysia.

Redmi Note 17 Specs

The base Redmi Note 17 features a 6.99-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with up to a 120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz refresh rate and 1,800 nits peak brightness with protection by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Interestingly, the Redmi Note 17 comes with two different possible chipsets with an online exclusive design that features a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 chipset that only has 4G LTE connectivity. In more general distribution is the Redmi Note 17 5G which uses a beefier Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset.

In terms of RAM and storage, the online-exclusive version with 4G LTE connectivity features 4G RAM and 128GB of expandable storage while the 5G-enabled variants feature 6GB RAM with 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 512GB of storage. All variants feature microSD card expansion.

Regardless of variant, the rear of the Redmi Note 17 hosts a single 50MP f/1.8 main camera while the front has a single 16MP f/2.5 camera for selfies and mugshots. Keeping it powered is a 7,700mAh battery with 45W wired charging. In Malaysia, the Redmi Note 17 comes in three colours – Black, Sky Teal and Celestial Purple along with an IP65 dust and splash resistance rating with its higher-end Pro and Pro Max models featuring more robust dust, water and drop resistance.

Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G Specs

Slightly higher up the totem pole, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G features a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K (2,772 x 1,280 pixels resolution with up to 120Hz refresh rate, DCI-P3 colour gamut, 3,500 nits in ultra high brightness mode and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. 

 

Flanking the display are dual speakers with the phone running a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 processor with three possible configurations for the Malaysia market. An online-exclusive variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage while two general-issue variants feature 8GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. Unlike the base Redmi Note 17, it lacks a microSD card for expandable storage.

For imaging duties, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G comes with a dual camera setup that consists of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS paired with an 8MP ultra wide angle camera while the front has a single 16MP f/2.4 selfie camera. The chassis is rated for up to IP69K dust and water resistance in your choice of Black, Purple and Sky Blue colourways.

Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G 

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is the most powerful, fully featured design in the Redmi Note 17 series with the best hardware and kit of the lot. It features the same tough 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display used in the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 but uses a more powerful Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor. 

Paired with the chipset is 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and either 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.1 storage. Like the Pro model, the Pro Max 5G lacks a microSD slot. Rounding things off are stereo speakers.

The rear hosts a dual camera setup that consists of a 50MP f/1,5 camera with OIS and an 8MP ultra wide camera while the front has a large 32MP selfie camera. Where the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G earns its moniker is on account of its absolutely massive 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery that offers up to 3 days of battery life. It also supports 100W HyperCharge fast wired charging and 27W wired reverse charging duties which is impressive any which way you slice it.

Like the Pro, the Pro Max also features robust IP69K dust and water resistance that has a rather unique photochromic backplate that responds to ultraviolet light and has your choice of three colourways – black, purple and a pinkish Cloud Blush.
