Acer’s unveiled 18-core Predator Orion 9000 desktop is a gaming behemoth
IFA is usually the perfect time for tech vendors to show their most powerful hardware and Acer’s massive, beefily specced Predator Orion 9000 certainly fits the bill when it made its stage debut in Berlin. The exterior of this huge edifice of desktop gaming is all manly lines and chrome along with tweakable RGB lighting for the front bezel and interior. It’s so huge that they’ve even added in two handles and wheels to make it easier to move around.
What’s under the hood of the Orion 9000 is what can give any gamer pause as it has enough room to be kitted out with an 18-core, 36-thread Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition processor, up to 128GB quad-channel DDR4 RAM, up to 4-way AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics or a pair of NVIDIA GeForce GTX100i graphics in SLI; this setup easily allows it tackle 8K once we eventually get around to it that is. Much like the nitro button on a sports car, the Orion 9000 also has an ominous button on the chassis that allows for overclocking with just one press of a button.
This much pixel crunching power means it needs a ton of cooling and the whole affair sports built-in liquid cooling and their IceTunnel 2.0 tech that separates the system into multiple zones, each with an individual airflow tunnel to keep things cool with the option to add up to five 120mm fans for superior airflow.
Also making an appearance is an equally impressive gaming monitor that they’ve dubbed the Acer Predator X35, a 35-inch 21:9 curved gaming monitor with a razor sharp 3,440 x 1,440 pixel resolution, NVIDIA G-SYNC support and Acer’s HDR Ultra tech. A fast 4ms response time, 200Hz refresh rate in tandem with NVIDIA G-SYNC and the ability to cover 90-percent of the DCI-P3 colour standard make it something truly ogle-worthy indeed.
Prices for the Predator Orion 9000 start at USD1,999 in December in the US and in Europe starting from €1,999. The Predator X35 gaming monitor has no price tag yet but it will be available sometime in Q1 2018. No word on when this massive gaming rig will land in Malaysia or what price tag it will come with but we’ll keep you posted.
