Alcatel 1, 5V and 3L smartphones arrive in Malaysia
Alcatel is back with a vengeance as they’re launching not one but a trio of smartphones dubbed the Alcatel 5V, Alcatel 3L and Alcatel 1 that come with all the usual embellishments that you’d expect of a flagship smartphone like notched FullView displays, facial recognition, dual cameras and more at very affordable prices.
The most powerful of the lot, the Alcatel 5V has a massive 6.2-inch HD+ FullView display sheathed in 2.5D glass that has a large 88% screen-to-body ratio. The phone runs Android Oreo on a MediaTek MT6762 octacore procesor paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage via a microSD card slot.
The rear comes with a dual camera array (12-MP + 2-MP) which has HDR, PDAF, the ability to recognise up to 11 scenes so that it can adjust settings accordingly as well as Google Lens support. Up front, the phone has an 8-MP camera for selfies and 720P video capture. Of note is that the phone has their Face Key facial recognition to swiftly unlock the phone with your visage alone.The phone comes in your choice of either Spectrum Black or Spectrum Blue for RM898.
The middle sibling of the lot, the Alcatel 3L has a 5.5-inch HD+ IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Alcatel 3L also runs Android Oreo on a MediaTek MT6739 1.28GHz quad-core processor mated to 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.
Other mod-cons include a single rear 13-Mp camera with a 5P Largan lens, PDAF and 1080P video capture whilst the front has a 5-MP snapper for selfies. Keeping things running is a 3,000mAh with a rated 25 hours of talk time before needing a juicing. It also has their Face Key facial recognition to unlock the phone with your mug alone. The phone comes in black, blue and a shade of gold for R498.
The Alcatel 1 is an interesting proposition on top of its low price tag as it runs Android Oreo Go Edition that has been optimised for low memory phones. The Alcatel 1 has a 5-inch FullVIew FWVGA display, a Mediatek MT6739 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of expandable memory and a modest 2,000mAh battery. A 2,000mAh battery is rated to offer about 17 hours of talk time. It retails for RM298.
