Asus Malaysia reveals latest notebooks from Computex 2017
Fresh off their Computex debut, Asus Malaysia revealed their next generation of ZenBook and VivoBook notebooks that are slated to roll out soon in Malaysia. For Malaysia, Asus will roll out three ZenBook models – the ZenBook Flip S, the ZenBook 3 Deluxe, the Asus ZenBook Pro along with two workhorse VivoBook notebooks – the VivoBook S and VivoBook Pro.
The new notebooks are all notable, pun notwithstanding, for being exceptionally slim examples of their class along with ultra svelte bezels and most come with Harman Kardon speakers. The five notebook models will arrive in Malaysia in stages starting from the end of June through to July. Here’s how they stack up…
Asus ZenBook Flip S
Currently the world’s thinnest convertible, the ZenBook Flip S has a 360-degree hinge that flips around and about to turn it into a tablet at will and is ultra light at 1.1kg and slim at 10.9mm, which makes the Macbook Air’s 1.35kg weight almost elephantine in comparison. The Malaysia variants will have a 13.3-inch Full HD resolution touchscreen display with a 6.1mm thin bezel.
Under the hood the ZenBook Flip S for Malaysia will come with an Intel Core i7 3.5GHz U-series processor, 8GB RAM, a 512GB PCie 3 x 4 SSD along with a 39WHr li-polymer battery rated for 11.5 hours of battery life in the field with a 60% charge in 49 minutes when hooked up to the mains. Of note is the addition of an ASUS Pen stylus that offers 1,024 levels of sensitivity for artists and doodlers. The audio is tweaked by Harman/Kardon for better sound and the whole affair ships for RM6,699 and will arrive in August in Malaysia.
Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe
The Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe is a high grade ultraportable that has the distinction of currently being the world’s thinnest 14-inch laptop and is 12.9mm thin with a 1.1kg weight by hewing the whole affair out of a single chunk of aerospace grade aluminium. The ZenBook 3 Deluxe sports a large 14-inch Full HD display with an 84% screen-to-body ratio and 7.46mm thin bezels, making it clock in at the size of the average 13-inch ultraportable with 100% sRGB.
The ZenBook 3 Deluxe has a backlit keyboard and integrates Thunderbolt 3 support that has the ability to support two additional 4K displays. It also has a quartet of speakers tuned by harman Kardon for superior sound. Malaysia units will come with an Intel Core i7-7500U U-series processor, Intel HD 620 graphics, 16GB RAM and a 1TB PCie 3 x 4 SSD for RM8,299 in either Quartz Grey or a fetching shade of Royal Blue and is available now in Malaysia.
Asus ZenBook Pro
The ZenBook Pro aka the UX550 measures in at 18.9mm thin while weighing 1.8kg but packs an impressive array of hardware within its aluminium chassis that makes it one of the most powerful notebooks in its class.
The ZenBook Pro comes with a 15.6-inch 4K display with a 100% sRGB and an 83% screen-to-body ratio. Running the show is a top-shelf Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, a GTX1050 GPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, a 512GB PCie 3 x 4 SSD, Thunderbolt 3 support and a whopping 14 hours of battery life along with a quad-speaker system certified by harman/Kardon. The ZenBook 3 Pro ships for RM7,299.
Also mentioned at the launch but not making an appearance is the Asus Vivobook Pro 15 which ships for RM4,799 and which comes with a 15.7-inch Full HD display, Harman Kardon certified stereo speakers and a smart amp for louder music, an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 4GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 GPU and a dual-fan cooling system to keep it cool under heavy loads. The Vivobook Pro 15 will arrive sometime in the beginning of August.
Another announced notebook is the Vivobook S15 that will arrive in the beginning of July and will ship in i5 and i7 flavours. Both come with a 15.7-inch display, have an Intel Core i7-7500U processor, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics and a slim 17.9mm yhin profile with the i5 variant to retail at RM2,899 and the i7 variant at RM3,699.
