The ASUS TUF FX505 is the sub-RM5,000 gaming notebook you are looking for
According to the bean counters in Asus, the most popular category of gaming notebooks in Malaysia are the gaming rigs in the sub-RM5,000 category and in that regard, they’ve kitted out their TUF FX505 that is set to arrive very soon in Malaysia with hardware capable of taking on all comers in its price category in terms of both performance and value.
Intended as the heir in terms of form, function and design from last year’s TUF FX504, the FX505 ups the ante with a slimmer bezel screen, a lighter and slimmer form factor and, most importantly for gamers, RGB lighting on the keyboard. The ASUS FX505 comes in multiple configurations and in two external finishes designated as Gold Steel and Red Matter. Red Matter hued FX505 gaming notebooks have a matte black finish with red accents. Gold Steel TUF notebooks are have a similar matte black finish but come with gold trim at strategic points on the chassis.
What the notebooks have in common is that they feature a full sized RGB backlit keyboard that comes with a numeric keypad as well as responsive 1.8mm key travel. Of note is that the WSAD keys are given extra prominence with a different design than the rest of the keyboard for easier identification from your peripheral vision. Other features common to both TUF FX505 notebooks are Dual Hypercool fans for superior cooling even under heavy work loads.
Irrespective of finish, the TUG FX505 gaming notebooks are all universally rated for MIL-STD-810G durability which means it can survive sudden jolts and vibrations without tanking.
According to Asus, the TUF FX505 gaming notebooks will come in up to 9 various configurations for the Malaysia market, each of them at different price points, similarly sized but differently specced screen displays, storage and processors. At today’s press announcement, Asus showcased one example which was impressively kitted out with a 15.6-inch Full HD 144Hz display with 7ms response time, an Intel Core i7-8750H 2.2GHz processor, 8GB RAM, a 128GB PCIe NVME M.2 SSD paired with a 1TB 7200RPM SATA hard disk and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060 GPU. There is a distinct possibility that there will be more powerful ones and a certainty that there will be more affordable variants available.
No prices are available as yet but it should hover, at most around the RM5,000 mark give or take a few hundred and at about RM3,000 for the entry level models. The ASUS TUF FX505 is slated to arrive on 22 October 2018, alongside the ROG gaming phone where they will announce the final specifications and, of course, how much they will cost.
