Budget Asus Vivobook Go 15 and Vivobook 15X laptops now in Malaysia from just RM2,299

School season is just around the corner and for many, it’s time to upgrade to a new laptop or invest in one for the kids. If you’re on a budget, the Asus Vivobook 15X and Vivobook Go 15 are tempting propositions as they feature modest prices that start from RM2,299 and up.

The Asus Vivobook 15X laptop is intended as a midrange budget laptop that comes in your choice of 13th Gen Intel or AMD Ryzen 5 series processors with the latter CPU costing a bit more. Compared to the cheaper Vivobook Go 15 which has an all plastic chassis, the VIvobook 15X edges out slightly with a metal top lid while retaining Asus’s standard MIL-STD-810H level of durability along with a full sized keyboard complete with numeric keypad.

 In terms of hardware, you get your choice of either a 13th Gen Intel Core i5-1335U with Iris Xe graphics or AMD Ryzen 7 7730U with AMD Radeon graphics powering a chassis that features a 15.6-inch 1080p IPS LCD display with a 60Hz refresh rate and 250 nits peak brightness, 8GB DDR4 RAM with a spare SODIMM slot for an additional 16GB DDR4 RAM. In terms of storage, the Intel model comes with a 512GB SSD while the AMD Ryzen variant has more substantial 1TB storage. 

On the connectivity front, the Asus Vivobook 15X has fast WiFi 6E, a USB 2.0 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Type-C port with power delivery support, a pair of USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a HDMI 1.4 port, an audio jack and a DC-IN barrel charger to juice the laptop. Keeping it powered is a 42Wh battery with a 65W AC adapter. 

In Malaysia, the Intel variant of the Vivobook 15X retails for RM3,099 while the AMD Ryzen variant retails for RM3,199. At the time of writing, both of these laptops are available nationwide in Malaysia.

The Asus Vivobook Go 15 aka model E1504F is a 15.6-inch laptop that comes with a modest price tag and an array of hardware sufficient for general computing use. For RM2,299, you get a plastic chassis that weighs about 1.63kg and is about 17.9mm thin that also retains a robust MIL-STD-810H rating against drops and damage along with a full sized keyboard complete with a numeric keypad.

In terms of hardware, the Vivobook Go 15 has a 15.6-inch Full HD TN display with a 60Hz refresh rate, a regular 16:9 aspect ratio and 250 nits peak brightness. Under the hood is an AMD Ryzen 5 7520U processor paired with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, a 512GB SSD and AMD Radeon 610M graphics.

Keeping it powered is a 42Wh battery juiced via a traditional DC-in barrel port capable of charging it to 60% in 49 minutes. Other mod-cons include fast WiFi 6E and a decent set of I/O that include a USB-C port, a USB-A port, a HDMI 1.4 port, a basic USB-A 2.0 port and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Assuming you have a bit of extra pocket money to spare, you can chunk out for a slightly more powerful Vivobook Go 15 variant that has 16GB RAM and a higher quality 1080p IPS display for RM200 more at RM2,499.
