Huge Asus ZenBook 17 Fold OLED UX9702 is a gigantic foldable laptop and coming to Malaysia priced at RM14,999

We took a quick look a few months ago at an early engineering sample of the Asus ZenBook 17 Fold OLED UX9702 laptop which is, in essence, the world’s first 17.3-inch foldable laptop with 12th Gen Intel processors, Iris Xe graphics and Intel Evo certification.

In a live streamed global launch, Asus revealed the official specifications of the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED UX9702 and the official price for Malaysia.

ZenBook 17 Fold OLED UX9702 Specifications 

The main centrepiece of the laptop is a massive 17.3-inch foldable 2.5K (2,560 x 1,920 pixels) OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 4:3 aspect ratio with 350 nits peak brightness that you can unfurl and then prop up to create a massive portable display that you can quite literally tote to Starbucks and back.

The stepless hinge and chassis of the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED UX9702 is rated for a tough MIL-STD-810H rating that allows it to fold flat and sustain over 30,000 open-close cycles. Just for street cred alone, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is easily able to decimate any contender. Of note is that the screen itself is Pantone validated and has a 100% DCI-P3 which will endear it to content creators.

Assuming you aim to be slightly lower profile, you can fold it down into a halfway up position like a normal clamshell laptop and slap on its magnetic Ergosense Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad combo to get a traditional laptop form factor with a 12.5-inch 1080p touch display. Alternatively, you can opt to use the Bluetooth keyboard separately and gain a unique form factor like that pictured above.

Bar the novel form factor, the Asus ZenBook 17 Fold OLED UX9702 is equipped primarily as a productivity oriented laptop with a 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1250U 1.1GHz processor, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD, Iris Xe graphics and a 75Wh Lithium Ion battery. It’s also Intel Evo certified which means it meets Intel’s lofty standards for fast boot-ups, battery life and performance as a portable laptop. 

For video calls, it has a single 5MP AI camera up top with what Asus refers to as 3D AI Noise Reduction tech for clearer calls and a quartet of speakers certified by Harman Kardon with Dolby Atmos and Smart Amps for richer sound are evenly spaced around the frame. In terms of I/O, it has a pair of Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports and an audio combo jack.
