Blackberry launches ultra-secure DTEK50 Android phone
It seems like Blackberry isn’t out for the count just yet as they’ve just announced preorders for their DTEK50 phone that runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0. The phone has a 5.2-inch 1080p 424ppi display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB of onboard memory expandable via a microSD card slot, a rear 13-MP camera paired with a front 8-MP snapper and a 2,610mAh battery. Where it excels is that Blackberry is claiming it to be the ‘world’s most secure smartphone’.Baked into the phone’s firmware and hardware is a host of security and encryption options that ensures the phone is secure from malware and tampering along with a robust regimen of same-day patches to ward against nasty threats in the wild. The phone has yet to hit Malaysia but it is available for preorder in Europe and the states for US$299 (about RM1625) on shopblackberry.com If you hustle they’ll toss in a charger worth US$59.99 though this offer expires at 11.59PM PST on August 8 2016. It’s an interesting stab again by the erstwhile giant at the saturated smartphone market by attempting to make a device that melds their security at a more affordable price point though how this will pan out remains to be seen.
