Casetify Powerthru Cable Review – Colourfully Tough Charging Cables
Cables typically aren’t something we’d consider investing considerable amounts of cash in and are often considered expendable assets once they wear out though Casetify’s new cable aims to change that notion. We managed to get a sample of their latest cable for review and it quite literally emerged with flying colours. Here’s our Casetify Powerthru Cable review where we put their latest charging cable to the test.
Casetify Powerthru Cable Review – Design and Performance
Where many cables are typically built to last a year or less with heavy use, Casetify’s Powerthru series of cables are built to last and are constructed in an impressively sturdy fashion. The cables come in a variety of colours and can be purchased in 1 metre or 2 metre lengths with both ends terminating in a USB-C port. Variants are also available with Lightning cable ports.
Our Casetify Powerthru Cable review sample comes in an eye-catching shade they’ve referred to as Cotton Candy and is the longer 2 metre variant. While it looks unseemly to tote about for a guy, there’s a method to this madness as its bright colours mean that it is far easier to identify in a snake pit of other cables.
To enhance their durability, the cables are sheathed in a layer of metal shielding, elastic tubing and braided nylon along with reinforced end caps around each USB-C port made from recycled bottles.
The cables themselves are rated to survive more than 30,000 bend tests and are quoted to have a 100kg tensile strength while the connectors have been rated to survive an impressive 20kg weight test. The cables are rated to support up to 240W charging and are quoted to have copper wires within to ensure a stable charge.
When put to the test, our Casetify Powerthru Cable review sample was able to support the full rated 45W fast charging speeds when tested with a Galaxy S24 Ultra and it was able to interact and fast charge a Huawei MateBook X Pro laptop without issue. When used to transfer files, it’s a bit on the slow side and is limited to USB 2.0 speeds so it works best for small files.
Even after several weeks of use, our Casetify Powerthru Cable review unit has remained in excellent condition with minimal wear and tear. While it isn’t cheap at US$39 (about RM186) for the 2 metre variant and US$28 (about RM133) for the 1 metre version, it is built to last and is well worth it for frequent travellers who need a sturdy, reliable cable.
