Since we first started developing the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, we have continued to explore the science of style, seeking to understand what makes hair smooth, shiny and glossy, and what makes it dull, damaged and lifeless. We have been worried about the style results and heat damage from flat plate straighteners,” says Sir James Dyson, the Founder and Chief Engineer for the company.

“Flat hair irons apply tension and heat only to the thickest part of the hair tress, the strands at the edges are not clamped, leaving them slack, unheated and leaving flyaways. It requires multiple passes on the same section of hair tress to give an even look, by which time excess heat may have cause reduced strength and less gloss,” he adds.

We discovered that if the plates could conform to the precise profile of the tress, then with each pass we could apply the correct tension to all the hair strands. This means that we get an enhanced style and without excessive heat damage. We simply do not need the heat that others apply. We engineered unique flexing plates of magnesium copper, wired eroded to a precise accuracy of 65 microns to adapt to the shape of the hair tress. The copper plate wrap around the tress, applying even heat and tension to all the hair strands, keeping them aligned. The Dyson Corrale straightener elevates styling results, while dramatically reducing heat damage on hair,” said Sir James Dyson.

The Dyson Corrale is available in Purple/Black and Black Nickel/Fuchsia and is effectively a hair straightener dialled to 11 with Dyson’s impressive integration of next-gen tech that makes it not only capable of straightening hair in a more effective fashion but in a safer manner too while being cordless to boot. How does it manage to do so? Well, read on squire.

How does the Dyson Corrale work?

Rather than relying purely on heat and ceramic plates like traditional wired hair straighteners, the Dyson Corrale uses what their boffins called flexing plate technology which uses a series of micro-hinged plates made of a manganese copper alloy that evenly apply heat and tension while gently gathering hair strands in every pass while ensuring perfect alignment.

In keeping with Dyson’s approach to science a solution to perfection, the flexing plates are each precision machined to 65 microns – the width of a human hair and edged in tourmaline to reduce static.

Where traditional hair straighteners run the risk of excessive heat applied to hair, the Dyson Corrale has an Intelligent Heat Control that regulates temperature at 100 times per second for even heat distribution throughout every hair pass, along with three precise heat settings that allow the Corrale to tackle all hair types and styles. By keeping the heat under control, users will enjoy better retention of hair strength, gloss and colour.

Dyson Corrale cordless battery

The built-in battery of the Dyson Corrale allows for 30 minutes of use and the cable easily latches on via magnets.

Better yet, the Dyson Corrale is extremely portable as it has a 4-cell lithium ion battery integrated into the handle that enables you to style on the go wherever you are for up to 30 minutes a time for quick styling or hair emergencies on the go. Once you’re back home, you can hook it up to charge it back to full again in just 70 minutes by simply attaching the provided magnetic charging cable.
