Dyson unveils the powerful yet light cordless Cyclone V10 vacuum cleaner
Since time immemorial, the mental image conjured up when you mention a vacuum cleaner to anyone and everyone is usually a plodding chunk of plastic with a noise like an angry elephant when you turn it on and a hose to match it along with middling performance but since Dyson came onto the scene, they’ve redefined what vacuum cleaners ought to be. Their latest offering the cordless Cyclone V10 vacuum cleaner looks to upend the game entirely as it’s more powerful than its predecessors, lighter than ever and a darned lot handier to boot. Qualities that will endear it to anyone from a dorm freshie to a seasoned homemaker.
In a launch in the Philippines today, Dyson showcased the new Cyclone V10 cordless vacuum cleaner which incorporates their most powerful technologies into an ultra portable form factor that is about the size of a broomstick but which can be reconfigured into an ultra-compact handheld format, which makes it extremely versatile to use anywhere and everywhere where you need to eradicate dust and crud with extreme prejudice. The best part? It’s cordless and can work, in normal mode, away from the mains for a good hour.
What is so special about the Dyson Cyclone V10
Table of Contents
The Dyson Cyclone V10, as you’d likely surmise from the name, is a cyclonic vacuum cleaner that uses the new Dyson V10 digital motor to generate powerful, consistent suction with the ability to suck up even microscopic dust, pollen (and yes, pet hair) that can cause allergies. To do this, it generates a series of 14 cyclones around its central axis, with 120 mph wind speeds at over 79,000G. The V10 also has a series of pre and post-motor filters that can capture 99.97% of allergens to ensure cleaner air after you vacuum with it rather than have it floating about after you’re done.
All this would have been for naught if not for its ability to stay away from the mains and the Dyson V10 integrates an ultra-dense 7-cell lithium ion battery that offers 60 minutes of suction before needing a recharge. The lack of a cable makes it very handy for reaching high ceilings, nooks and crannies.
To tackle a variety of cleaning scenarios about the home or office, the Dyson V10 comes with a series of swappable cleaner head attachments. You can swap it into an ultra compact hand held configuration for cars, sofas and stair cleaning duty whilst other attachments allow you to tackle most cleaning scenarios in your house from upholstery to hard floors with deft aplomb.
What’s this V10 digital motor about then?
The key to the power, portability and performance of the Dyson V10 cordless vacuum cleaner is its new digital motor, also dubbed the V10 that is half the weight of its immediate predecessor the V8 and features impressively enhanced performance with the ability to spin up to a staggering 125,000rpm at about 2,000 times a second; this is their fastest digital motor ever made. As a matter of perspective, the usual conventional brushed motor in a typical vacuum cleaner doesn’t spin faster than 41,000rpm. The engineering put to achieve this impressive speed involves a reengineered diagonally angelled impeller that allows for more airflow with more efficient and powerful vanes along with a strong yet light shaft that made of a ceramic compound that’s three times harder than steel but half the density.
All this power is carefully managed by a series of sensors that are smart enough to even track the altitude, barometric pressure and ambient temperature that you are using the V10 cordless vacuum in so as to optimise the V10 vacuum for maximum performance whether you’re doing it in a high altitude city like Mexico city or somewhere low-lying like Amsterdam.
