Exitra and partners exhibits exciting cloud-based solutions
While everyone espouses about the idea of ‘taking it to the cloud’ to bring businesses to next level, most people out there have absolutely no idea as to how or what it meant barring an attempt at pointing that those fluffy white things right out your window which is where Exitra’s recent seminar for business owners and technopreneurs came into play.
Dubbed the “Exitra Cloud & Open Source: Amplifying Your Business” seminar, the event saw a packed conference room of invited business owners getting a firsthand look at how some of Malaysia’s leading technopreneurs were able to successfully harness the power of the cloud in their businesses.
After a welcoming keynote from Exitra General Manager Mr.Chong Kee Kiat, the invitees were given a thorough walkthrough as to what the cloud was about by Mr. Raymond Phoon, a celebrated author and business transformation expert. He demystified the idea of cloud-based solutions, explaining it in layman’s terms while offering hilarious anecdotes and personal examples of how the cloud saved his bacon from disaster and data loss. He also shared his personal top-ten list of must-have apps, services and websites for both people and businesses that can leverage the power of cloud.
He recommended Microsoft Office 365 for office productivity, LinkedIn for business networking, GoDaddy for simple and efficient website ad domain management, Spotify for easy music on the go, Trello for managing tasks and projects with a team, ZOHO for managing tasks and basic analytics for a business, Evernote to remember notes across multiple platforms, Google Apps for e-mail, calendars and storage options as well as iCloud for backing up contacts and the like though the last option is strictly for Apple users. If you have an Android account, you can back up most of your stuff to the Google Apps suite – Google Photos will sort out your shots, Google Docs for your documents and Google Drive for everything else. Next up, Mr Bryan Soong from local startup Vectory Innovation Sdn Bhd showed how one of the most onerous and necessary tasks in a business – keeping the books balanced – was made easier with the cloud, and in particular, his own cloud-based accounting app for SMEs and small business owners called Biztory. The app is on a subscription basis from RM48 per month and has a slowly growing clientele with the vast majority of his clients based in Malaysia. Bryan adds that “There is a huge untapped market for smaller players who need an affordable and understandable solution to manage their accounts and Biztory is a software solution designed for business owners rather than accountants with the ability for users to manage their accounts in a very accessible fashion on a subscription basis.” said Bryan. According to Bryan, the app is GST compliant and additional functionality will be rolled out later on such as a management accounting model later on this August as well as sales and trend pattern analysis models in future updates.
