New flagship Huawei Pura 70 Ultra launched in China with retractable camera lens and Kirin 9010 chip
Even with the slings and stones of outrageous fortune in recent times, Huawei has remained unbowed and their latest successor to the P60 series flagship phones, dubbed the Pura 70 series which are powered by their new domestically manufactured Kirin 9010 chipset has just launched in China.
Much like its predecessors, the Pura 70 series comes in multiple versions led by the top of the line Pura 70 Ultra which has the best hardware followed by the Pura 70 Pro+, the Pura 70 Pro and the base Pura 70. According to Reuters, the Pura 70 Ultra and the Pura 70 Pro were sold out in a minute after they went on sale in China.
Huawei Pura 70 Ultra Specifications
Up close, the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is the star of the show with their best hardware and engineering prowess on display. Up front, the phone has a 6.8-inch OLED LTPO display with FHD+ resolution (2,844 x 1,260 pixels) along with a dynamic 1-120Hz refresh rate, 1,440Hz PWM dimming and up to 2,500 nits of peak brightness.
Better yet, the display is sheathed in an upgraded version of their ultra tough Kunlun glass which has 100% improved drop resistance and up to 300% improved scratch resistance.
While official literature is sparse on their official website in China for the phone, early buyers who have taken the phone apart and checked out its internal hardware reveals that it runs an improved Kirin 9010 processor.
The chipset is speculated to be built on a 7nm process with a quartet of 1.55GHz efficiency cores, six 2.18GHz performance cores and a pair of 2.3GHz high-performance cores paired with 16GB RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of storage. Oddly enough, there are no specific details on if it has 5G connectivity
The rear camera array of the Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is certainly novel if not unusual. Housed in a quaint triangular camera housing is a triple camera setup that gives it a rather distinctive identity.
Taking pride of place is a 50MP main camera that has OIS as well as sensor shift- anti-shake stabilisation and apparently a selectable aperture that can go from F/1.6 to F/4.0 and which has a retractable lens that retracts when the camera is not in use.
Riding shotgun is a 50MP telephoto camera that also has OIS and 3.5x optical zoom with up to 100x digital zoom and a 40 MP ultra wide angle camera. Combined, this setup allows for up to 4K video capture. Up front, the phone has a 13MP selfie camera that also offers 4K video capture.
Of note is that the rear camera array now has an enhanced ability to capture fast moving objects including a race car going in at full tilt on the track which is quite a feat.
Keeping the phone powered is a 5,200mAh battery with 100W fast wired charging and 80W fast wireless charging along with 20W reverse wireless charging.
All this is sheathed in an IP68 rated chassis that comes, at least in China for now, in four colourways all of which have a faux leather texture. You get something referred to as Chanson Green, Mocha Brown, Starburst White and Starburst Black.
