GoPro’s waterproof HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session launched in Malaysia

If you have been hankering for GoPro’s latest wunderkind action cameras, the HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session, you’re in luck as they’ll be officially available for sale this coming Monday (3 October 2016) in Malaysia. Here’s what makes GoPro’s latest action cameras seriously sweet propositions:

GoPro HERO5 Black
For the uninitiated, the GoPro HERO5 Black is their latest action camera and comes with significant improvements over its predecessor the HERO4 as it incorporates the best features of both the HERO4 Silver (its touchscreen)  and the HERO4 Black (4K video, natch).

The HERO5 Black is waterproof in up to 10 metres of water or (that’s 33 feet for you Yanks in the audience) without the need for a casing. The HERO5 Black is able to capture 12-MP RAW snaps and luscious 4K@30FPS video or slo-mo video at 1080p@120fps and comes with video stabilisation for ultra smooth judder free video. It’s also capable of taking 30fps burst and time lapse shots too. Both shots and video are framed via the rear 2-inch touchscreen and 1-button control. hero5-black-cameraYou can also back up your content to the cloud via a GoPro Plus cloud account though you have to fork out for a subscription. In keeping with recent hardware developments, the camera is charged via a USB Type-C port. It also takes voice commands too so you can bellow “GoPro, take a photo!” in your best Patrick Stewart impression or direct it, assuming you’re multilingual, in up to seven languages to not only take photos but engage video recording, burst mode and more . It will retail in Malaysia for RM1,849.

GoPro HERO5 Session
The cube-shaped HERO5 Session is the successor to last year’s HERO4 Session and sports several improvements, in particular 4K@30fps video capture enhanced with judder free video stabilisation tech while retaining the same cuboid form factor.

The HERO5 Session is also capable of capturing 10-MP snaps as well as burst and time lapse shots too while also possessing similar voice controls as the larger, and pricier HERO5 Black.  The HERO5 Session  is again similarly waterproof to the same depth as the HERO5 Black – that’s 10 metres of water without the need for an external casing. Like the HERO5 Black, it also offers video and image backup via the GoPro Plus cloud storage service.

Using it is similarly bungle proof with a one-button control though it lacks a built-in LCD display. You can however pair it up with a smartphone so you can use the phone’s display as an ersatz viewfinder. The price is fortunately quite different than the GoPro HERO5 Black in the right direction as it’s only RM1,399, making it a good deal more affordable.

Both the GoPRO HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session are locally distributed by FunSportz  and can be purchased at launch at the following outlets:
