HONOR 20 Pro, HONOR 20 and HONOR 20 Lite make global debut in London
HONOR is certainly in the big leagues now as their recent London launch has unveiled not one, not two but three smartphones from their new HONOR 20 family to tumultuous fanfare. We reviewed the HONOR 20 Lite awhile back but the two new surprises – the HONOR 20 and the flagship HONOR 20 Pro are both truly unique offerings with both packing quad camera arrays and in a novel first for the brand, dedicated macro cameras for close-up shots.
Externally, both phones are indistinguishable save for how different their rear quad camera arrays look with the HONOR 20 Pro having an extra vertical strip to house additional optics beside the primary cameray array. As far as colours are concerned, the HONOR 20 comes in Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue and Icelandic White gradient finishes while the HONOR 20 Pro only comes in either Phantom Blue or Phantom Black.
The flagship HONOR 20 Pro comes with a 6.26-inch IPS LCD punch hole display with 2,340 x 1080 pixels resolution, their flagship Kirin 980 octacore processor running Android Pie 9.0 and has 8GB RAM along with 256GB of storage. The rear quad camera array is unique in that the fourth camera is a 2-MP dedicated macro camera for close-ups. The rest of the hardware consists of a 48-MP camera with OIS and a bright F/1.4 aperture. The secondary 16-MP F/2.2 camera has an ultrawide angle lens while the third 8-MP camera has 3x optical zoom and OIS too for judder free shots. That’s quite an impressive setup. Up front is a 32-MP selfie camera. The battery consists of a 4,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging support.
The mainstream HONOR 20 has a similarly sized 6.26-inch FHD+ IPS LCD punch hole display as the HONOR 20 Pro, an identical Kirin 980 octacore processor running Android Pie 9.0 but has less storage and memory with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The rear camera array also lacks OIS on all of its cameras with a primary 48-MP F/1.8 camera, a secondary 16-MP F/2.2 ultrawide camera, a 2-MP macro camera such as the HONOR 20 Pro and a 2-MP depth sensor. Missing on the HONOR 20 is the HONOR 20 Pro’s telephoto camera. The battery is slightly smaller as well at 3,750mAh.
At launch they announced the HONOR 20 to retail at €499 while the HONOR 20 Pro retails at €599. There are no official prices for Malaysia as yet but the local launch is slated to happen on 23 May 2019 so we’ll keep you posted.
