Honor 400 Pro and Honor 400 will be the first phones in the world to feature AI Image to Video generation
Fresh from announcing that the new Honor 400 Pro and Honor 400 will be having a global debut in Malaysia, Honor has also shared that their two new phones will be the first in the world to allow users access to a unique AI Image to Video Generation model capable of magically turning photos into short animated videos that are powered by Google Cloud.
What is AI Image to Video generation
The AI Image to Video generation feature on the Honor 400 Pro and Honor 400 lets you turn a static image into a 5-second long MP4 video in your choice of 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait mode where the items and people in the image itself are animated.
While you can’t directly control what gets animated, the AI itself in our initial tests works best if there’s a specific subject in the image like a selfie. It also works on other subjects like scenery, movie posters and even panels from a comic though you can’t quite control the results for now. At present, you’re allowed ten generations a day for free for now and there’s no word just yet on how long or how much the service would cost in future.
For reference, the shots were saved in MP4 format but converted to GIF for easier viewing. Here’s a several samples of the AI Image to Video Generation alongside the original photo and the finished product.
- AI Image to Video generation test outside MidValley Megamall, the Honor 400 Pro was able to generate convincing traffic flow in
In Initial demonstrations, AI Image to Video generation proved exceptionally adept. In selfies and group shots, it was able to demonstrate a modicum of animations with subjects smiling and waving their hands.
- In this AI Image to Video Generation test on the Honor 400 Pro, the AI was able to generate a short 5-second video of TRX tower in Malaysia with just one photo
In a scenery shot of TRX, it was able to amazingly perform what seemed like a zoomed-in drone shot overlooking part of the Kuala Lumpur skyline over what is a normal shot of the TRX tower. In a static shot of some rather empty highways, AI Image to Video generation was able to generate a panning shot as well as adding in significantly more traffic than what was seen in the original photo.
- In this AI Image to Video generation test at Kwai Chai Hong, the Honor 400 Pro was able to animate passerby in a convincing fashion
The results thus far look promising based on our test runs and we’ll share how it fares in our full review.
Other AI Imaging features
The new Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro also have their prior AI Cutout tool that lets you move a subject around into a new background with the AI filling in the missing or added subject intelligently. This comes in handy if you want to add a subject into a group shot.
Honor has also improved their prior AI Eraser, now in version 2.0 that is able to better delete unwanted objects, scenery and passerby. Another feature that was especially popular on the prior Honor 200 series was their Harcourt Studio filters that were special settings optimised for portraiture akin to the famous studio by the same name. Now with version 2.0 in the Honor 400 series, it offers better background blur and more refined edge details as well as six additional Film Simulation filters.
The Honor 400 series also now has AI Face Tune that checks if photos of people have their eyes closed and if so, is able to edit the photo intelligently to show them with their eyes open.
Another notable new addition that’s unique to the Honor 400 series is the addition of AI Upscale which automatically improves detail and clarity with low-resolution photos which comes in handy especially with old prints that you’ve captured on the phone before using AI Image to Video generation.
Another novel AI Imaging feature is what Honor refers to as AI Super Zoom which leverages AI to improve image quality when zooming in using the rear cameras by 50% and when you’re beyond 15X zoom. In effect, this enables the Honor 400 Pro to offer crisp 15x to 50x zoom while the Honor 400 offers 15x to 30x zoom. There’s still no official details on what cameras both the Honor 400 and Honor 400 Pro are using but the upcoming launch in Malaysia will offer everything in full detail. Stay tuned for updates!
