Honor 6x budget behemoth phone announced at CES 2017
While the adage that good things don’t come cheap has generally held true in the world of tech, Honor has bucked that trend as they’ve continued releasing a series of high-performing blowers that don’t cost a bomb with the Honor 8 turning heads last year as it was one of the first phones in its price range to have a dual-camera system for better depth of field and more detail.
At CES 2017 they’ve just taken the wraps off their latest phone: the Honor 6X that comes with a 5.5-inch 1080P display, their hefty Kirin 655 processor running Android 6.0 overlaid with their Emotion UI 4.1, 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage onboard with about 21GB of usable space. You can, of course, opt to expand it via a microSD card slot that can support up to 128GB cards.
The phone also has a fingerprint reader too which is something of a rarity for a phone at around this price point. The Kirin 655 SoC processor sports a quartet of A53 2.1GHz cores to handle the heavy lifting and a quartet of 1.7GHz cores to handle basic grunt work.
The dual camera seen on the Honor 8 is back this time around with a 12-MP and 2-MP combo on the rear to take snaps in colour and mono too. The front comes with an 8-MP snapper for selfies. A built-in 3,340mAh battery with fast charging 5V/2A support allows for exceptional longevity in the field.
All this is crammed into a sleek looking 8.3mm thin machined unibody aluminium chassis that comes in either gray, gold or silver for about US$250 which works out to about RM1,100 with change. According to Honor, an update to EMUI along with a bump up to Android 7.0 is in the works for Q2 in 2017 and a variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage does exist but there are no firm indicators as to whether either variant or when they will make it to Malaysia. We’ll keep you in the loop as soon as we get more details.
