A firsthand look at the honor 8X phablet
Honor has had a reputation for crafting some seriously good budget phones that blend top-shelf hardware with prices that won’t cost you an arm, a leg and a kidney. Their latest upcoming phone the honor 8x, that is slated to arrive in Malaysia sometime soon, if the auguries are accurate, brings a whole lot of value to the table including a huge Fullview display, dual cameras and more.
We’ve had the privilege of getting a firsthand look at a production-grade model and it looks fetching indeed. Unlike previous offerings like the Honor 8 which were, for lack of a better word, exceptionally blinged up with gradient finishes or multi-layered glass laminates, the honor 8X is almost understated in comparison with our sample finished in a black reflective glass finish. The rear also has a rounded fingerprint reader along with a vertically arrayed set of dual AI cameras with one 20-MP f/1.8 paired up with a secondary 2-MP that acts as a depth sensor.
The sides which are made of metal are rounded with a matte black finish, lending it a very classy look that won’t look out of place in the boardroom. The base of the phone comes with a speaker grille, a 3.5mm audio jack and, quaintly enough, a micro USB port framed by a pair of antenna bars. The left side is bare save for a triple card slot allowing you to bung in two SIM cards and an SD card at the same time. The right side of the honor 8x has a power button and volume rocker.
Up front, the phone sports a surprisingly large 6.5-inch, 2,340 x 1080 pixel touchscreen with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio along with an increasingly common notch that hides a front-facing 16-MP selfie camera.
Running the show on the honor 8X is a Kirin 710 processor running Android Oreo 8.1 and their EMUI 8.2 that has their GPU Turbo feature, 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage whilst a 3,750mAh battery keeps the lights on. There’s no final word on local pricing as yet but we’re told it will be quite agreeable indeed. Stay tuned for more details as we’ll cover its imminent launch in Malaysia.
