HONOR AI Defocus Eye Protection

Honor AI Defocus Eye Protection and AI Deepfake Detection tech revealed at MWC 2024

Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2024 showed off a slew of innovations across a host of brands but Honor took the lead with the unveiling of two unique AI-powered technologies that can potentially resolve two of the biggest problems plaguing modern man today – myopia from viewing extended usage of displays and other tech as well as addressing malicious footage which uses AI to impersonate actual people in compromising positions.

To address these issues, Honor introduced their AI Defocus Eye Protection Tech and their AI Deepfake Detection technology at MWC Shanghai 2024.

What is Honor AI Defocus AI Protection

According to Honor, both technologies will be on-device AI with AI defocus eye protection leveraging AI to simulate defocus glasses on a smart device’s display that introduce controlled defocusing in peripheral vision to ensure clear central vision and which in turn helps to reduce the eye elongation process which leads to myopia.

According to tests by Honor’s boffins, their AI Defocus Eye Protection tech has been shown to reduce transient myopia by 13 degrees after reading for 25 minutes with some users experiencing a maximum reduction of 75 degrees of myopia.

What is Honor AI Deepfake Detection

In the case of AI Deepfake Detection, on-device AI is able to examine videos frame-by-frame for a number of telltale signs like eye contact, lighting, image clarity and more to identify possible flaws that cannot be seen by the naked eye that would indicate a video is a deepfake. To achieve this, Honor has trained the algorithm through a large dataset of videos and images related to network scams to achieve a 3-second response time. If deepfaked content is detected by the feature, it immediately warns the user.

Needless to say, these two potential technologies are extremely promising indeed though Honor has not officially stated if it will see service in future designs or if it can be retrofitted to existing phones or other devices in the market as yet. We’ll keep you posted when we get details!
