Honor Alpha Plan strategy announced at MWC 2025; 7 years of OS and security updates and more AI features

At Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Honor has revealed their bold Honor Alpha Plan, a corporate strategy that aims to transform them from a smartphone maker into a global leading AI device ecosystem company with a bold three-step strategic plan that will take not only Honor but mankind into the future.

“It is clear that the AI revolution will reshape the paradigm of the device industry – completely transforming our productivity, our society, and even our culture more than ever before,” said James Li, CEO of Honor. “I am calling on all of us to unite together to address the challenges, as well as the many opportunities of AI technology. I also call on the industry to be truly open so that we can fully embrace this exciting AI future. Let’s do it together.”

What is the Honor Alpha Plan?

The three step Honor Alpha Plan consists of first developing an intelligent phone in conjunction with partners to co-create a new paradigm for AI devices in the agentic AI era. The next step is to open industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for the AI ecosystem in the physical AI era. Last but not least, the final step is for Honor to open human potential boundaries and create a new paradigm for mankind.

As the first step, Honor’s vision of an intelligent phone will embed human-centric AI to maximise human potential. In a technology showcase at MWC 2025, Honor showcased the world’s first GUI-based personal mobile AI agent in collaboration with Google Cloud and Qualcomm Technologies where the AI agent helped to make a table reservation through a third-party service.

Another AI enhancement announced at MWC 2025 is the introduction of AiMAGE, a new imaging technology powered by AI kernel to support device-cloud AI models that have a 1.3 billion parameter on-device model that generates a 50% improvement in image clarity while its cloud counterpart offers a vastly higher 12.4 billion parameter model for massively improved telephoto image quality. Beyond the showcase, Honor’s most practical feature is the introduction of an AI Upscale feature that can restore old portraits that will be rolled out to the Honor Magic7 series from March onwards. This is on top of its current innovative AI Deepfake detection feature baked into the Honor Magic7 Pro itself.

As we move into the physical AI era, we need to open our industry boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for the AI ecosystem,” said James Li. To reach the second step of its strategic plan, HONOR calls on the industry to open up its AI capabilities for a wider range of devices, enabling seamless collaboration as HONOR co-creates a value-sharing ecosystem with global partners. As testament to its commitment, HONOR announced that it will invest more than USD 10 billion over the next five years to fund this endeavor.

The most practical update of the Honor Alpha Plan is the announcement of 7 years of OS and security updates for its Honor Magic series starting with the European Union market and rolling out to other regions later on over time. Malaysia will also get the 7 year OS and security update in the near future though there is no fixed timeline yet. This elevates Honor to one of the few phone manufacturers that honour this long an update and security patchd timeline.

At MWC 2025, Honor also revealed the new Honor MagicBook Pro 14 laptop, the new Honor Pad V9 tablet and the Honor Watch 5 Ultra. For more details check out https://www.honor.com/my/
