Honor Magic7 Pro first look – checking out latest AI infused flagship for 2025
Honor is on a roll and even before the year is out, they’re already slating their next flagship, the Honor Magic7 Pro for launch in Malaysia early next year. Ahead of its official launch, we managed to sit in on an early brief and get a gander at their upcoming flagship phone which will apparently have their most innovative AI-enhancements baked in. Here’s our Honor Magic7 Pro first look where we suss out what’s in the box and what makes their new phone so special.
Like clockwork, the Honor Magic7 Pro is slated for launch next year in 2025. Intended as the successor to this year’s Honor Magic6 Pro, the Honor Magic7 Pro comes with an impressive array of upgrades including the customary upgrades in terms of performance, durability and battery life.
Where it has a distinctive edge over the competition is a bevy of enhanced AI capabilities including one AI-powered feature that can be a literal life saver. According to official literature and a hands-on demonstration, Honor’s new phone now has a unique AI Deepfake Detection technology baked into the device.
Honor Magic7 Pro first look – AI enhancements
In our Honor Magic7 Pro first look briefing, Honor personnel created an elaborate setup where they made a video call to the Honor Magic7 Pro while using a deepfake filter to look like a completely different person.
During the course of the live demonstration, the Honor Magic7 Pro was able to accurately detect when a deepfake video was in play, displaying a warning notification and also white flagged an authentic video caller. As features go, this is easily one of the most impressive thus far and seeing the current prevalence of scam calls these days, it adds a certain measure of security too.
On top of AI Deepfake Detection tech, our Honor Magic7 Pro first look experience also revealed more refined AI features seen from their earlier Magic V3 foldable. Among the features that the phone will have on deployment include an more robust AI Translate mode that has more consistent and reliable live interpretation and translations of 13 languages including Korean, Japanese, Cantonese and most important of all, Bahasa Malaysia.
Another key AI feature of note unique to the Honor Magic7 Pro is the inclusion of Magic Avatar which whimsically lets you create a digital avatar from hair colour down to clothing that can inhabit your main and cover screen with time-specific interactions. It’s a whimsical entertaining addition and while it doesn’t have direct practical value, it does lend a more personalised touch to the phone.
Other features highlighted in our Honor Magic7 Pro first look experience include its ability to summarise transcribed summaries of meetings and speeches and interviews via AI Notes in different styles, with a demonstrator effortlessly transcribing a conversation from Japanese into English and summarising it in seconds.
While AI enhancements played centrestage at the preview, Honor Malaysia also shared the improvements in build and design with the phone featuring a robust IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance for resistance against dust and water ingress as well as high pressure jets of water.
Like its predecessor, it also has an Honor NanoCrystal Shield laminate protecting the front display that’s 10x more drop resistant than conventional glass and is resistant to impacts from sharp objects too. As proof of its water immersion capabilities, a sample of the Honor Magic7 Pro was suspended in a fish tank running a video on a loop and even after 30 minutes swimming in the proverbial drink, it still ran without issue.
While the core aspects of the Magic series design are there with a large rounded camera housing on the rear, the Magic7 Pro serves up a new set of colourways that include Breezy Blue, Black and an unusual looking Lunar Shadow Grey as pictured here that has marbled streaks of grey across the backplate.
At first blush, the Honor Magic7 Pro feels every inch like a flagship phone with excellent tactility from its use of premium materials and an even heft for easy one handed use. Veterans of the prior Honor Magic6 Pro will take like a duck to water as well as the Magic7 Pro has the same layout for its power and volume buttons so it’s an easy transfer of muscle memory.
The rear camera array has been improved as well though exact specifics on its specifications weren’t officially mentioned at the preview. In the meantime, stay tuned as we uncover more details as they appear on the Honor Magic7 Pro and its impending Malaysia launch this 9 January 2025.
