New Honor X7b 5G, Pad 9, Band 9 5G and MagicBook X 16 launched in Malaysia

Honor Malaysia has launched a diverse array of refreshed products across the range just after the debut of their flagship Magic6 Pro and its posher sibling the Porsche Design Magic6 RSR. Consisting of the midrange Honor X7b 5G, the new Honor Pad 9 5G tablet, the Honor MagicBook X 16 laptop and the Band 9 smart band, the new line-up are notably affordable midrange options for price conscious buyers.

The new line-up notably has several refreshed models with the X7b from last year getting 5G connectivity in the new model while the Honor Pad 9 WiFi tablet which was launched a couple of weeks back gets a 5G capable variant. Both the Honor MagicBook X 16 2024 laptop and Band 9 smart band gets a tweaked set of specifications but mostly retain similar aesthetics. Here’s how the new range stacks up on paper…

Honor X7b 5G specs and price in Malaysia

The revamped Honor X7b 5G is a midrange phone that notably has 5G connectivity – hence its updated suffix – over its predecessor released earlier last year along with a different chipset and more RAM. 

The phone comes with a 6.8-inch IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification to make it easy on the eyes. Powering the phone is a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 processor paired with 16GB RAM augmented by 8GB of virtual RAM Turbo off the onboard 256GB of storage. Of note is the inclusion of stereo speakers and the ability to kick up the sound to 200% on demand for extra loud playback.

For imaging duties the Honor X7b 5G has a rear camera array with a 108MP F/1.75 primary camera, a 2MP F/2.4 macro camera and a 2MP F/2.4 depth sensor.

Up front, you get an 8MP F/2.0 stereo speaker. Keeping the phone powered is a large 6,000mAh with 35W wired fast charging. Honor has also ensured that the battery health and capacity are retained at more than 80% even after 1,000 charging cycles. In Malaysia, the Honor X7b 5G will be available in either Crystal Silver or Emerald Green colourways priced at RM899.

Honor Pad 9 5G specs and price in Malaysia

For those looking for a midrange tablet with superior connectivity, the Honor Pad 9 5G beckons. Astute readers will note that its WiFi only sibling was launched alongside the Magic6 Pro a couple of weeks ago and which we also reviewed. The Honor Pad 9 5G is otherwise identical save for the addition of a 5G modem for connectivity away from a WiFi hotspot as well as a dark gunmetal grey colourway rather than the light silver of its sibling. 

You get a 12.1-inch FullView Display with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 500 nits peak brightness framed by 8 Hi-Res Audio certified speakers. Powering the Honor Pad 9 5G is a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor paired with 16GB RAM and 8GB RAM Turbo virtual RAM along with 256GB of expandable storage. 

The rear hosts a 13MP camera while the front has an 8MP camera for video calls. Keeping the tablet powered is an 8,300mAh battery rated for 11 hours of video streaming. Where the Honor Pad 9 offers exceptional value is that it comes bundled with a compact smart keyboard case and a stylus too. In Malaysia, the Honor Pad 9 5G retails for RM1,499 in Dark Grey and will be available on 25 April 2024 while its WiFi-only variant retails for RM1,799 with both a Dark Grey or a Cyan colourway and is already available in the market.

Honor MagicBook X 16 2024 price and specs in Malaysia

The refreshed Honor MagicBook X 16 2024 is a budget laptop intended for students and those looking for an affordable productivity platform. You get a large 16-inch Fullview Display with 1,920 x 1,200 pixels resolution and a tall 16:10 aspect ratio as well as a 60Hz refresh rate for effective paperwork crunching along with a full sized keyboard complete with a numeric keypad.

Powering the laptop is a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12450H processor paired with 8GB soldered in RAM and a 512GB SSD running Windows 11 Home. 

Keeping the Honor MagicBook X 16 2024 powered is a 42Wh battery juiced via a USB-C port that uses a bundled 65W portable charger. In Malaysia, the MagicBook X 16 2024 retails for RM2,999 and ships with a free copy of Microsoft Office 365 along with a free backpack.

Honor Band 9 price and specs in Malaysia

For those looking for a compact and affordable activity and health tracker, the Honor Band 9 comes with a 1.57-inch AMOLED touch display with 402 x 256 pixels resolution, 500 nits peak brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate in a metal-framed chassis rated for up to 5ATM water resistance.

The Band 9 is able to offer all-day blood oxygen monitoring, heart rate as well as sleep and stress monitoring, breath training as well as reminders for high or low resting heart rate. It also ships with 96 possible workout modes. In terms of endurance, the Honor Band 9 is rated for up to 14 days of usage on a single charge.
