Honor X9a 5G launched in Malaysia priced at RM1,499 with free gifts

When it comes to midrange smartphones, most manufacturers typically compete on value but the new Honor X9a 5G that has just been launched in Malaysia goes one better as it’s arguably the toughest midrange phone in its price range even without a protective casing on account of its toughened 0.65mm Super Reinforced Glass display.

In numerous tests, Honor has used the X9a 5G to smash everything from durians to walnuts with nary a scratch on the phone which makes it the phone equivalent of a main battle tank. While it’s certainly ideal for party tricks, the main application of a toughened display on a midrange phone ensures that you don’t need to spend money on slapping on an extra case or having to coddle it by adding exceptional drop resistance

Durability aside, the Honor X9a 5G has, as you’d likely  surmise, 5G connectivity out of the box, features a 6.67-inch OLED curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 800 nits peak brightness along with a 300Hz touch sampling rate which is easily a grade above most other midrange phones.

The rest of the hardware for the Honor X9a 5G onsists of a Snapdragon 695 processor with full Google Play support, 8GB RAM with an additional 5GB of vRAM and 256GB of storage. THe rear consists of a triple camera array built around a 64MP F/1.8 camera, a 5MP ultra wide angle camera and a 2MP macro camera while selfies are tackled by a front-facing 16MP camera. 

Keeping the lights on are a 5,000mAh battery with 40W fast charging support which are officially rated for 2 days of battery life. To add to its value proposition, Honor is throwing in the charger and cable along with a free casing in the box as standard.

Honor X7a specifications

Also announced at the Honor X9a 5G launch was a more affordable variant dubbed the Honor X7a that emphasises battery life as its main calling card with an officially rated 3.5 days of battery life according to official tests by DXoMark.

In terms of hardware, the Honor X7a has a 6.74-inch LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and HD+ (1,600 x 720 pixels) resolution, a modest MediaTek Helio G37 octacore processor, 6GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage via a microSD card slot.

The rear hosts a quad camera array (50MP F/1.8 + 5MP ultra wide + 2MP depth sensor + 2MP macro) with a front-facing 8MP camera. While it isn’t stated in its designation, the Honor X7a does indeed have 5G according to its official spec sheet. Keeping it powered is a massive 6,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast charge support. WIth the modest resolution of its display and efficient CPU, the Honor X7a looks like a solid workhorse indeed.

How much is the Honor X9a 5G and Honor X7a in Malaysia?

In Malaysia, the Honor X9a is available in your choices of Titanium Silver, Emerald Green or Midnight Black colourways priced at RM1,499 with RM418 in free gifts that include 180 days screen crack protection and a free pair of Honor Choice X3 earbuds worth RM249 from 6th January 2023 onwards.
