Huawei Health Lab spreads its wings with new Songshan Lake facility featuring enhanced R&D capabilities

The Huawei Consumer Business Group has just opened their largest Huawei Health Lab campus to date in Songshan Lake, Dongguan province in China that further expands their research and development capabilities to create smart wearable devices.

What is the Huawei Health Lab

The new Huawei Health Lab campus spans a sprawling 4,680 square meters and features sophisticated research and development facilities with an emphasis on being a globally recognised health and fitness technology R&D institute dedicated to product R&D, certification and industry incubation activities. To wit, part of the testing of their new GT 3 smartwatch was handled at the Songshan campus.

This spanking new facility complements their other campuses including their Xi’an campus which focuses on innovative use cases for health and fitness technologies. In a short guided tour of the facility done virtually, invited guests were able to observe a host of testing arenas where researchers could measure a comprehensive array of factors ranging from kinesthetics to ergonomics with climbing walls, tennis courts, a swimming pool and much more. 

In order to measure these parameters, the new Huawei Health Lab integrates a professional optical motion capture system that uses a series of high-speed infrared cameras that can even track something as fast as a speeding bullet. That’s not all as the lab also has special areas where researchers are capable of measuring workout heart rate, metabolism and much more. To date, over 192,500km of running data – that’s equivalent to 4 and a half laps around the earth’s equator – have been collected in 2021 alone. 

Another part of the lab was able to allow researchers to measure more intricate physical indicators such as bloody oxygen and blood pressure.
