Mate30 Pro 5G

Huawei Mate30 Pro 5G coming to Malaysia priced at RM4,199 on 7 February

Huawei’s commitment to rolling out 5G went up a notch as they’ve finally announced a launch date and price for Malaysia’s first 5G certified smartphone, the Mate30 Pro 5G.  The phone will retail at RM4,199 and will be available on 7 February 2020 through your favourite telcos and Huawei Experience stores nationwide.

Functionally speaking, the Mate30 Pro 5G is aesthetically similar with an identical SuperSensing Cine camera array as the conventional Mate30 Pro which was sold last year but differs as it features a more powerful Kirin 990 5G SoC chipset built on a 7nm + EUV process and an integrated 5G modem, all on the same chip.

The tangible benefit from cramming in the Kirin 990 5G SoC is that it has better built-in AI which extends to better overall performance and better In Signal Processing (ISP) from the cameras.

On the 5G front, the phone has 14 5G antennas to ensure a stable 5G connection with full support for 5G non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) networks too so you’re covered regardless of whatever networks that Malaysia will deploy in the future.

The rest of the hardware consists of a 6.53-inch FHD+ OLED display, 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage expandable via their NM cards while a 4,500mAh battery with 40W SuperCharging tech keeps it humming along nicely.

While it sounds odd to chunk out for a 5G phone when 5G hasn’t been fully established yet in Malaysia, it’s worth noting that the Mate30 Pro 5G currently has one of the highest scores on DxOMark for camera quality on top of their burgeoning App Gallery. In Malaysia, the Mate30 Pro 5G comes in Space Silver, Black and a shade of Orange and can be acquired at Maxis, Celcom and UMobile with availability at Digi a bit later on.
