What phones work with Huawei Pay in Malaysia
Huawei has finally introduced their Huawei Pay service in Malaysia in collaboration with UnionPay International and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China which means you can perform cashless payments for stuff with your Huawei phone.
Originally introduced in August 2016 in China, Huawei Pay is part of their Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) suite under their Huawei Wallet application. At this point in time, it doesn’t work with all cards universally and only works with ICBC UnionPay Credit Cards added to the Huawei wallet app. Needless to say, you’ll need to have an account with ICBC and own a UnionPay credit card to take advantage of Huawei Pay for now in Malaysia.
Payment is via NFC by simply tapping the payment terminal with your Huawei phone – naturally your Huawei phone needs to be a version with NFC support which we’ll go into later. This marks the first time the service is introduced in Malaysia which adds additional functionality to their range of phones like the recently announced Mate 40 series and P40 series.
What phones have Huawei Pay?
Huawei Pay is already live as of 15th November 15th 2020 on selected Huawei smartphones and according to Huawei Malaysia, the following phones, will get the update which will retroactively add Huawei Pay to these devices which include the latest P40 series phones all the way back to the P10 Plus, the new nova 7 5G among their midrange series phones and most of the Mate series phones dating back all the way to the Mate 9.
