Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II aims to bring style and music to Malaysia on 30th October

The original Gentle Monster smart eyewear were a combination of a stereo music player and posh sunglasses which were certainly novel when they debuted last year. Now, Huawei is bringing in their successor, dubbed the Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II to Malaysia.

The new smart glasses will retail for RM1,799 and will be available in Malaysia from 30th October. While they are issued with non-powered lenses in both opaque and transparent varieties, you can have them fitted with prescription lenses if you’re myopic or presbyopic at a third party spectacle boutique on your own.

On top of their primary purpose in protecting your peepers from sunlight, the Huawei x Gentle Monster Eyewear II also act as a discreet pair of headphones that let you listen to streamed music and take calls from a paired phone.

Improvements over last year’s model include a refined, slimmer design that incorporates titanium into the temples for weight savings with more flexible hinges that support a wide opening angle along with a larger yet slimmer set of built-in stereo speakers integrated into the ear pieces. Huawei’s boffins have also made sure that the audio is more discreet with up to 12dB in reduced sound leakage so that everyone doesn’t know you’re going through a kitsch Bjork playlist. 

Battery life is rated for 5 hours of music or 3.5 hours of voice calls on a single charge; a 40% improvement over the original version. Charging it is by plonking it into its charging case which has wireless and wired charging too with a 15-minute charge offering an hour of playback.
