Huawei’s Nova 2 Plus has a whopping 128GB storage and snags you 20-MP selfies for RM1,999
While all eyes are on Huawei’s upcoming Mate 10 launch that is slated to occur sometime within the next few months, they’ve stolen a night march on the selfie camphone front with the official release of their Nova 2 Plus phone in Malaysia; serendipitous as according to Huawei, Malaysia is apparently one of the top ten most prolific selfie snapping nations in the world. Quite a lofty achievement that.
Huawei’s new Nova 2 Plus camphone puts selfies as its raison d’être and puts in a front-facing 20-MP selfie camera with an F/2.0 aperture tricked out with a host of interesting features for prolific selfie snappers.
For better low light snaps, the Nova 2 Plus can use the touchscreen display as an ersatz flash and the phone is able to recognise gestures to trigger the shutter release; waving your hand in front of the Nova 2 Plus’ selfie cam lets you take a selfie. A built-in algorithm uses facial recognition to intelligently defocus the background for shots akin to a full frame camera.
The Nova 2 Plus’ rear camera consists of a 12-MP camera and a secondary 8-MP camera with the former having an F/1.8 aperture. On the hardware front the Nova 2 Plus comes with a respectable 5.5-inch Full HD touchscreen and runs Android 7.0 and their latest EMUI 5.1 user interface on a midrange Kirin 659 2.3GHz octacore chipset with 4GB RAM and a whopping 128GB of expandable storage that can be supplemented via a hybrid SIM card slot. The rear also sports a fingerprint sensor and they’ve also crammed in an AK4376A Hi-Fi chip for better audio quality.
Power on the Nova 2 Plus is provided by a 3,340mAh battery via a USB Type C port that supports 9V2A fast charging. All this is crammed into unibody machined aluminium chassis that’s about 6.9mm thin in your choice of Graphite Black, Prestige Gold or Aurora Blue for RM1,999. Even if you’re not a prolific selfie snapper, the fact that the Nova 2 Plus comes with such an impressive amount of storage out of the box along with a Kirin chipset of recent vintage makes it a tempting proposition for those looking for a midrange workhorse. If all this floats your boat, you’ll be chuffed to know that the Nova 2 Plus is now available at Huawei Experience stores nationwide.
