James Dyson Award 2023 now accepting entries for Malaysia

If you or your team of fellow students or engineers are up for the challenge, the James Dyson Award 2023 challenge is up and running and is accepting entries for Malaysia with national winners getting up to RM26,500 in prize money.

Over the years, Malaysia has seen a host of strong entrants with prior winners developing solutions for disability inclusion (Eat. Easy), advanced plastic and water recycling (WaterPod, Plastic Scanner), the biodegradability of materials (MarinaTex, AuREUS), and bettering at-home medical diagnostics (Blue Box, HOPES). 

What is the James Dyson Award 2023?

Since its inception in 2005, the James Dyson Awards have brought about an innovative renaissance of creative ideas from young designers and engineers across the globe with brilliant inventions like the SmartHEAL , an innovative RFID intelligent dressing taking first place last year.

Malaysia’s national entry, the MA-Pencil proved to be an innovative solution. The awards have, to date, awarded 390 inventions with prize money and over 70% of past global winners are commercialising their inventions. For Malaysia, the national winner will be chosen by an external panel in collaboration with Dyson though the global winner is selected by Sir James Dyson himself. The international winner gets awarded up to a whopping RM160,000.

“We are looking for young engineers who are hard-wired to solve problems sustainably, often using less energy and fewer materials, and who want to improve the world through their ideas. Young people have the ideas that can change things for the better, and they should be encouraged. The James Dyson Award gives them the platform to pursue their inventions, and I look forward to judging this year’s entries. Good luck!” said Sir James Dyson, founder of the eponymous brand. 

Eligible applicants need to have enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate engineering or design related course at a Malaysian university along with several other criteria.
