Mercedes redefines luxury and performance with new S-class line-up
Luxury is defined by many things – status, comfort, power but Mercedes-Benz, the premier brand of luxury cars for time immemorial aims to encompass all this and redefine the concept of luxury as we know it in their latest prestige S-Class 450 L luxury limousine which was launched alongside the S 560 Cabriolet, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe and the lushly appointed Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
The new S-Class limousine is a work of love and an exercise in master craftsmanship with over 6,500 new components integrated into its design and a host of new features across the board on top of refreshed aesthetics.
The S 450 L is locally assembled and runs on a 3.0l bi-turbo V6 petrol engine capable of delivering 367hp with 500Nm of torque with the ability to go from 0-100km/h in just 5.4 seconds at a top speed of 250km/h. The capable engine is mated to a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and the S450L has a host of premium features that include Active Distance Control DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist.
From within and without, the new S-Class has a surfeit of prestigious features in keeping with its status as one of Mercedes’ finest rides. Externally, it has a new radiator grill that has a trio of twin louvres sheathed in chrome and a series of vertical bars across the radiator grille. This is complemented by optional multibeam LED headlamps with excellent clarity in night or day. The rear also sports a redesigned lower bumper with integrated tailpipe trim finished in chrome which lends it a very distinctive look.
From the inside, the revamped S-Class has a pair of 12.3-inch high resolution displays that acts as a wide-screen cockpit with virtual instruments arrayed within easy line of sight with your choice of any of three different display styles – classic, sporty and progressive – that you can change to at your whim. Complementing this are touch control buttons in the steering wheel to manipulate the infotainment system safely without having to divert your attention from the wheel and the road. The new S-Class also has what they dub as Linguatronic voice control, which allows you to tweak cabin settings like the air conditioning, lighting and it even has a seat massage mode.
The new S-Class retails for RM699,888 OTR without insurance and with 0% GST. For a slightly higher RM705,888 you can acquire it with the designo paint option. Alternatively, you can opt for a three-year EaseCare Financing tenure that starts from RM8,888 a month with several perks that include flexible financing.
S 560 Cabriolet

Also launched at the same time was the S 560 Cabriolet that has a 4.0l biturbo V8 engine capable of delivering 469hp with 700Nm, while offering a smooth ride on account of full-support Airmatic air suspension.
Naturally, it also has the works including Swarovski crystals integrated into the headlamps, floating OLED taillights as well as a series of creature comforts that blend lighting, music and climate control into a harmonious whole. The S560 Cabriolet retails for RM1,310, 662 on the road without insurance and 0% GST.
Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe
If you’re looking for something zippier with a sportier look about it, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe comes with S-Class comforts blended with supercar handling. Thrumming beneath a motorsport-inspired design that has AMG’s signature Panamericana grille enhanced with a sleek looking Jet Wing design on the front apron and air intakes is a 4.-l biturbo V8 engine by AMG capable of producing 612hp and an impressive 900Nm of torque mated to a nine-speed AMG Speedshift MCT gearbox capable of going from zero to a hundred km/h in just 4.2 seconds.
Naturally, such performance also requires a commensurately princely sum and the S 63 Coupe retails for RM1,461,605.60 on the road without insurance and 0% GST.
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class
If you’re looking for something more, how shall we say, dignified and majestic looking, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the definitive automobile for you. Externally it has 20-inch wheels, a revamped grille with vertical struts as well as a decadently appointed interior with black nappa leather upholstery and optional trim inserts hewn of Magnolia wood. Powering the whole affair is your choice of either a V8 or V12 powered engine with prices starting from RM1.4 million depending on customisations requested.
