Nokia’s smartphones will pack Zeiss lenses
Nokia’s recent successes abroad and their return to Malaysia’s shores with the recent launch of their reimagined 3310 feature phone and their Android-packing Nokia 3, 5 and 6 phones in June this year was a welcome sight. Now, Nokia is aiming to take things to the next level with the renewal of an old alliance from their heydays, one that may well put them back into the limelight once more.
Nokia’s brand licensee HMD Global and Zeiss announced and inked an exclusive long-term partnership that will see both of them working on enhancing the whole imaging experience on Nokia phones from screen quality, optic design and much more. In the mid-2000’s, Zeiss optics featured prominently in Nokia’s line-up of N-series and Pureview series phones like their venerable N900, the N82 and more.
“Collaborating with Zeiss is an important part of our commitment to always deliver the very best experience for our customers. Our fans want more than a great smartphone camera, they want a complete imaging experience that doesn’t just set the standard but redefines it. Our fans expect it and, together with ZEISS, we’re delivering it – co-developed imaging excellence for all,” said Arto Nummela, CEO of HMD Global.
The long term implications of this agreement is that the next generation of Nokia phones will have Zeiss’ superb optics built-in along with a host of other technologies to offer superior imaging performance. There are no plans firmly set in concrete, launch plans or announcements as to what both will work on or what future Nokia phones will feature their hardware but the thought of a Nokia camphone with their renowned Zeiss glass is something that sets our hearts a-flutter.
