Tough Oppo A5 Pro series phones launched, priced from RM899 in Malaysia
There’s a burgeoning need for butterfinger proofed phones that can survive the slings and arrows of outrageous misadventures and the new Oppo A5 Pro that has just been launched in Malaysia is proof of that as it has a slew of certifications and an armoured chassis that protects it from most mishaps. Rather than just different storage configurations, Oppo is instead offering the Oppo A5 Pro with a 5G-capable and 4G LTE only enabled variant in Malaysia.
What is the Oppo A5 Pro
On paper, the Oppo A5 Pro is protected with Gorilla Glass 7i on the front display along with Xensation Alpha glass on the backplate for resistance against scratches and nicks while the whole chassis itself is rated for IP68/IP69 dust and water resistance along with a MIL-STD-810H milspec rating for durability.
What this means is that on top of the ability to survive in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for 30 minutes, it’s also able to shrug off high pressure jets of water too. The MIL-STD-810H rating also means that the phone is drop proof too from modest waist-high distances to the ground.
At the launch, Oppo also demonstrated the resilience of the phone with a power drill that was not able to drill through the Oppo A5 Pro’s main display and was able to happily survive while being simmered in a hotpot without issue.
In terms of hardware, the Oppo A5 Pro comes with a front-facing 6.7-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution (1,604 x 720 pixels), a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,000 nits peak brightness. The 5G-capable version is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset while the 4G LTE only version uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 1 chipset.
Regardless of processor, the Oppo A5 Pro uses 8GB RAM and 256Gb of storage space. The rear packs a 50MP main camera and a 2MP mono camera while the front has a single 8MP selfie camera. Keeping the whole affair powered is a 5,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging.
