Razer Basilisk V3 and DeathAdder Essential are now the world’s first gaming mice with ECOLOGO certification
Razer is taking a small step for gamers and a huge step for the planet as they’ve just had their incredibly popular Basilisk v3 and DeathAdder Essential gaming mice certified with the prestigious ECOLOGO certification from UL, the world’s premier global safety science outfit.
While Razer has a vast line-up of mice, the Basilisk V3 and DeathAdder Essential were selected for their popularity and combination of speed, customisability and comfort. To achieve ECOLOGO certification, the Razer Basilisk V3 and DeathAdder Essential had to undergo and pass the UL2710 certification test which is the Outline of Investigation for Sustainability for Portable Electronics that ensures any product bearing its marque are ecologically sustainable.
What is ECOLOGO certification?
With the ECOLOGO mark, these two gaming mice are compliant with EU hazardous chemical restricted substance regulations, have been assessed to be safe against skin irritation and sensitisation, are compliant with repair and replacement management in regards to ease of disassembly by authorised service providers and fulfil requirements on how Razer disseminates information on which components require selective waste treatment to service providers.
That’s not all as the packaging and the facilities also need to be compliant and the boxes are made of FSC certified material that is free of heavy metals and chlorine while also using sustainable soy-based inks for efficient recycling. Both mice were also certified to be made in facilities compliant with ISO 14001 certification for environmentally responsible management.
The packaging for the Basilisk V3 and DeathAdder Essential with the ECOLOGO mark will be available by the end of 2022 but existing owners of both gaming mice without the logo can sleep easy as the existing mice are already compliant with ECOLOGO certification and simply haven’t had the new logo plonked on. The price also remains identical with the Basilisk V3 retailing for RM329 and the DeathAdder Essential for about RM169.
“What better way to celebrate World Environment Day than to share with our community that the very mice that help them win in games are also a win for the environment,” says Kenneth Ng, Sustainability Manager at Razer. “Unlike companies making their own claims about their products being sustainable, we go the extra mile to prove to our fans that our products are truly sustainable. Our community of gamers can rest assured that their favorite mice have been thoroughly vetted by a trusted scientific organization that looked at a comprehensive list of criteria to award us with the ECOLOGO Certification.” For more details check out Razer’s official page at https://www.razer.com/go-green/green-products/ecolabel
