New Redmi 17 series launched in Malaysia with durable displays and huge batteries from RM669
Xiaomi has launched their latest addition to the Redmi series of budget phones. Dubbed the Redmi 17 series, the new Redmi 17 series phones consist of the Redmi 17, Redmi 17 5G as well as the Redmi A7 that universally offer large yet durable displays, long battery life and modest prices that start from RM669.
Here’s how all three of the new Redmi A17 series phones stack up, how much they cost and where they can be purchased in Malaysia.

At the top of the totem pole for the Redmi 17 series, the new Redmi 17 5G comes with a generously sized 6.9-inch display with 1,600 x 720 pixels resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate protected by tough Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Powering the Redmi 17 5G is a modest Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor with a 5G modem, up to 4GB UFS 2.2 RAM along with up to 4GB of assignable virtual RAM. Storage options consist of either 128GB or 256GB variants.
For imaging, the Redmi 17 5G hosts a single 50MP f/1.8 rear camera while the front has a single 8MP f/2.05 camera for selfies and mugshots. Of note is the addition of an RGB light on the rear for notifications. Keeping the phone powered is a huge 7,500mAh battery with 45W wired charging.
As budget phones go, the Redmi 17 5G is relatively robust with an IP64 dust and water resistance which lends it resistance against most everyday mishaps. In Malaysia, the 4GB RAM version with 128GB storage retails for RM799 while the 4GB RAM variant with 256GB storage retails for RM899 with your choice of colour options consisting of an eye-catching shade of orange as well as blue and black colourways.

The Redmi 17 has a similarly sized 6.9-inch display, has the same camera setup and 7,500mAh battery setup with 45W wired fast charging but instead uses a MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra processor which lacks 5G connectivity and only comes in one RAM/storage configuration for Malaysia – 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB eMMC 5.1 storage – with up to 4GB of additional virtual RAM assignable off the onboard storage.
In Malaysia, it comes in Oak Green, Deep Blue, Black and Lotus Purple colourways with an RM699 price tag.
Redmi A7 specs and price
If you’re looking for something even more affordable, the Redmi A7 can be yours for just RM469. For what you pay for, you get 3GB RAM and 64GB of storage in a chassis that hosts a large 6.88-inch display with 1,640 x 720 pixels resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate, a Unisoc T7250 octacore processor, 4G connectivity and a 5,200mAh battery with 15W fast charging.
The rear has a single 13MP f/2.2 camera while the front has a single 8MP f/2.0 camera. Interestingly, it has a 3.5mm audio jack. Available colourways for Malaysia consist of black, Sky Blue and Orchid Purple. However, it will only arrive in Malaysia later next month from 15 September 2026 onwards.
