ROG Phone 5 gaming phones and accessories now in Malaysia from RM2,999

A slew of gaming phones have come and gone from the market but only a select few like the ROG Phone 5 have been sufficiently successful enough to not only survive but thrive.

Now in its fourth incarnation, the Republic of Gamers ROG Phone 5 is now available in Malaysia. Its beefier siblings, the ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate are coming next month in May 2021.

What is the ROG Phone 5 series

The ROG Phone 5, ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate all share a common ancestry with a similar 6.78-inch 144Hz AMOLED 2,449 x 1080 pixel display that is also HDR10+ certified and has 111.23% of DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage sheathed in Gorilla Glass Victus.

All three variants of the ROG Phone 5 are powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G processor, have the same rear triple camera array (64MP using a Sony IMX686 sensor + 13MP wide angle camera + 5MP macro) and same 24MP front camera. Connectivity is similar as well with WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 with support for Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive codec as well as a beefy stereo speaker system with Dirac HD Sound.

Where they differ slightly is in terms of storage, RAM and, of course, price. The ROG Phone 5 has 16GB RAM and 256GB storage with a price tag of RM2,999 and does not come with the novel AeroActive cooler.

The ROG Phone 5 Pro has 16GB RAM and 512GB storage and retails for RM3,799 and also lacks the AeroActive cooler. You can however purchase it in a bundle with the AeroActive cooler for RM4,499.

The ultra premium, uber powered ROG Phone 5 Ultimate boasts of a terrifying 18GB RAM and 512GB storage and comes with both an AeroActive cooler and the ROG Ultimate Fan gift box at a princely RM4,999.

You can, of course, purchase the ROG Phone 5’s bevy of accessories separately. The AeroActive Cooler 5 retails for RM149. You can also purchase the ROG Kunai 3 gamepad (RM499)  and ROG Kunai 3 bumpers (RM69) this month. In May, you can purchase the ROG Lighting Armor Case (RM199) and a 1.8m long ROG USB-C to USB-C cable (RM59). You can also purchase the ROG Cetra II (RM499) and ROG Cetra II Core (RM199) headphones in May as well.
