ROG Phone 8 Malaysia prices revealed; powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 gaming phones start from RM3,999
Republic of Gamers have just launched their ROG Phone 8 gaming phone series in Malaysia that succeeds last year’s ROG Phone 7 series phones. The new line-up which consists of the ROG Phone 8, the ROG Phone 8 Pro as well as the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition which have a similar base design but have slightly different cameras, different amounts of RAM and storage as well as the inclusion of LED lighting – this is a gaming phone after all – on the backplate depending on model. The base ROG Phone 8 features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with FHD+ (1,080 x 2,400 pixels) resolution paired with a 165Hz refresh rate, a 2,500 nits peak brightness and a 720Hz touch sampling rate that is sheathed in Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Under the hood, the ROG Phone 8 runs the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor processor paired with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of storage.
On the rear of the ROG Phone 8, you get a 50MP F/1.9 OIS stabilised main camera and a wide 13MP F/2.2 wide angle camera along with a 5MP macro camera. For selfies and mugshots, you get a 32MP camera for selfies that pixel bins shots to 8MP. Keeping the phone charged is a 5,500mAh battery with 65W HyperCharge fast charging and 15W wireless charging. The backplate also gets an RGB backlit ROG logo. Of note is that the phone has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating which Asus claims is the first gaming phone to do so.
ROG Phone 8 Pro specs
In the case of the ROG Phone 8 Pro, Republic of Gamers has retained the same 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED 165Hz FHD+ display, the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but has more RAM with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage for smoother gameplay and the ability to store more games. Where it differs is that the ROG Phone 8 Pro has a different backplate with a more elaborate AniMe Vision display that consists of 341-mini LED lights that are customisable and which allows you to show custom messages and logos to taste.
The rear camera has been upgunned as well, replacing the 5MP macro camera on the ROG Phone 8 with a more powerful 32MP F/2.4 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The front selfie camera for the ROG Phone 8 Pro is otherwise identical to the base ROG Phone 8, using the same 32MP selfie camera pixel binned to 8MP stills.
The ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition is identical to the ROG Phone 8 Pro save for the addition of a whopping 24GB RAM and 1TB of storage. The display, cameras, battery and design is otherwise similar to the ROG Phone 8 Pro including an AniMe customisable rear display.

In Malaysia, the ROG Phone 8, ROG Phone 8 Pro and ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition are all available nationwide in Malaysia with your choice of Storm Grey and Phantom Black for the base ROG Phone 8 model while the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition and ROG Phone 8 Pro is only available in Phantom Black.
