Samsung reveals Flex Titanium tech for next generation Galaxy foldables

Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked 2026 that will take place in London on 22 July 2026 as well as live streamed across the globe, Samsung teased some of the technologies, in particular their Flex Titanium, that will be integrated into the next generation of foldables that are widely rumoured to be the Galaxy Z Fold8 series and the Galaxy Z Flip8.

What is Samsung’s Flex Titanium technology?

In an official release, Samsung shared more about their Flex Titanium technology. The new technology integrates two titanium-based components – a titanium-alloy film as well as a titanium plate – that help to offer improved durability, slimness and flexibility within a foldable.

Taking hard-won lessons from seven generations of the Galaxy Z Fold series, Samsung chose titanium as the core material for Flex Titanium tech on account of its ability to withstand external shock, flexible enough to survive repeated folding and thin enough to fit within a flagship foldable design.

Up close, the titanium-alloy film in Samsung’s Flex Titanium technology supports a foldable display from within and sits below the OLED panel. Compared to polymer film, it offers 20 times greater mechanical stiffness while retaining slimness that is just one-third the thickness of an average human hair.

To ensure enhanced durability, the titanium plate acts as a stable support beneath a folding display when unfurled while retaining enough flexibility for repeated folding.

The titanium plate also allows for tighter bonding with the display module by supporting it from underneath and helping to eliminate air gaps between the module and the adhesive on the plate itself through advanced hole processing tech as part of its manufacturing process. Another side benefit of Flex Titanium technology is the reduction of crease visibility to ensure a more seamless viewing experience.

“By introducing sophisticated micro-patterned holes to the folding section of the titanium plate, we have successfully secured flexibility with robust durability,” said Kyung-Jin Yoo, EVP and Head of Mobile Display Product Development Team, Samsung Display. “
