Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will have S Pen stylus
Samsung has upped the tempo of their operations and as you’d likely have seen from all over the net, their next generation flagship phones which will be the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra will be launched much earlier than normal with a slated arrival of 14th January 2021.
Tantalising images have made their way all across the net revealing a gorgeous design language that expands on the aesthetics seen in the 2020’s Note20 series with its vertically aligned camera arrays but takes them to new heights with a chromed looking cutout that looks very chic indeed.
More importantly, the largest and most powerful phone of the trio, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will inherit a feature that is typically the province of the Note20 series – an S Pen Stylus. This confirmation comes by way of an FCC filing in their database that confirms the feature which was first spotted by Android Authority.
The addition of an S Pen stylus, especially if it’s the one gracing the recent Galaxy Note20 series means that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will accept gesture controls by way of the S Pen.
By waving the S Pen around like a wand, you’re able to use it as a remote control for apps and phone functions including using it as a remote shutter or to control the volume, among some of the more notable examples.
One pickle though is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to store the S Pen in the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s body as it seems to lack a stylus well that the Galaxy Note series has by default. It could be a means of differentiation to bundle it separately as a premium bundle for those who need it but nothing has been confirmed as yet.
It could possibly be bundled with a special casing that can store the stylus itself; a solution that’s no unheard of but there’s nothing confirmed so far so we’ll have to wait and see.
Other confirmed features courtesy of the FCC filing for the Galaxy S21 Ultra include UWB support which was first seen in the Note20 series, reverse wireless charging of other gear, wireless charging and WiFi 6E which is a new WiFi standard that has more bandwidth for devices and support for the 6GHz band.
What else do we know about the Galaxy S21 Ultra?
Rumours are being bandied about and hardly anything is official until the official launch this coming 14th January but so far, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will likely feature the high-powered Exynos 2100 or the Snapdragon 888 processor depending on region in keeping with their previous doctrine. Leaked renders, courtesy of Evan Blass, show a sophisticated, large quad camera array.
Still, the addition of an S Pen stylus with the S21 Ultra is the most exciting addition to the venerable and popular Galaxy S series phones and may mean that more of what makes the Galaxy Note series unique will trickle down to the Galaxy S-series phones though whether this signals the demise of the Note series is hard to say for now.
