Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case review – Build and Design

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case is essentially a durable, tough polycarbonate case that has been form-fitted to the exact dimensions of the new Galaxy S22 series with a case designed for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and the top of the line Galaxy S22 Ultra.  One thing to note is that the cases aren’t swappable between the different Galaxy S22 models as the camera cutouts and button ports are all specifically made for each variant.

In the case of our Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case review sample, we managed to get a Galaxy S22 Plus sized version. What makes the case unique is that it is primarily made of post-consumer recycled plastic which makes it a more ecologically conscious choice for users. 

The backplate features cutouts for the triple camera arrays in the Galaxy S22 Plus as well as the most unique feature of the phone – a stylish fabric hand strap finished with a stainless steel clasp that lets you safely and efficiently hold the phone one handed in a vertically oriented portrait mode without risk of it dropping by accident due to misadventure.

Rather than being a fixed feature, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case actually allows you to swap the straps out for other choices made by Samsung including recent offerings like the limited edition Inside Scoop variant that was seen at their Samsung Galaxy Stage roadshows. 

Regardless of which variant you get, the case is available in either a white or dark blue version for all Galaxy S22 variants.  In the case of our Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case review sample which came in a dark blue, I got a neon orange strap with dark blue motifs.

The white version gets you a strap done up in white and green motifs. The strap itself terminates in a stainless steel clasp of sorts that makes it easier to fish out and which acts as a stop for the strap to create a compact loop for your fingers to hold the phone.

The case itself features a matte finish which is smooth to the touch and resists fingerprints wonderfully. In order to protect the phone, the backplate of the case is rigid along with the top and left sides though the right and the base use a softer, more rubberised polycarbonate for the buttons and the access ports.

Overall build quality is sturdy and the strap itself is well made without any prickly stitch seams to interfere with its grip while implementing a fabric akin to the stuff used in seatbelts which makes it smooth and comfortable to grasp for long periods of time.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case review – How does it perform

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case fits like a glove onto its intended phone model and the button cut-outs precisely fit the volume rocker and power buttons on its intended Galaxy S22 model which minimises wear and tear on the actual buttons itself. 

The cutouts in the base also offer full access to the USB-C port and the speaker grille. In keeping with many other case designs, the SIM card port is covered over by the case itself but odds are you aren’t going to be swapping it out regularly so it’s not a major issue.

Swapping the strap out is a simple task as it’s held in place on the rear via a snap-on peg system on the internal side of the backplate with two pegs to allow users to adjust it for smaller or larger sized hands. Changing the bundled strap with a different one takes less than a minute.

Fortunately, the case itself is relatively light and slim, weighing in at just 58g while being relatively svelte too, adding a mere millimetre or so all around to the dimensions of a Galaxy S22 series phone.

The ergonomic benefits of using the Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case are tangible. Rather than the usual clawed deathgrip necessary to hold a phone the size of a Galaxy S22 The strap itself also allowed for a more natural grip when held in landscape mode with my fingers slipping through the loop in an intuitive fashion for taking calls, web browsing and texting.

Using the case and phone in portrait orientation made for a more relaxed grip and the option of changing the strap also makes it a conversation piece especially if you use the more exotic gacha versions available for sale from Samsung.

One thing to note is that it takes some time to relearn muscle memory when using the case but the design makes it easier to fish your phone from a pocket via the metal clasp before slipping your fingers through the loop. 

Unfortunately the strap can’t be rotated and isn’t of much use if you want to use the phone in landscape orientation such as when you’re gaming or taking photos.

Alas, the metal clasp does somewhat interfere with your grip and whips around if you don’t adjust and hold it down when used in landscape orientation. It isn’t a deal breaker but odds are good that most users will primarily use a phone in a vertically oriented portrait mode for most of the day anyway.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to rate it how tough the case is against drops to a hard surface but seeing the usage of Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus+ along with the relatively well armoured corners of the case, it’ll certainly improved the odds of your Galaxy S22 series phone surviving a spill to the deck.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case – Is it worth it?

The  Samsung Galaxy S22 Silicone Cover with Strap case is a surprisingly fashionable case that allows for quite a degree of personalisation via swappable (and colourfully appointed) straps while offering a modest array of protection for a Galaxy S22 series phone along with some practical ergonomic benefits too.

It doesn’t come cheap at RM169 but the practical and ergonomic benefits of the casing make it well worth the trouble.
