Alleged Samsung Galaxy S9 camera samples leaked
The timer is ticking down to Samsung’s upcoming launch of their Galaxy S9 and the leaks are coming in steady trickles as more and more of its capabilities are being gleaned from disparate sources. Now, a source on Weibo has unveiled what may be the world’s first Galaxy S9 camera samples.
The source on Weibo unveiled three pictures, each of them emblazoned with a number nine. The first depicts a child on a swing, which may indicate of the Galaxy S9’s ability to crisply capture fast moving images. The second shows someone about to jump into a body of water at dusk or dawn which seems to suggest the waterproofing in the S9 and its ability to capture backlit shots and its HDR capabilities. The third shows a cat with a beautifully defocused background which may indicate of the S9’s capabilities for macro shots on account of its purported dual-aperture settings.
Ahead of the upcoming launch at Mobile World Congress, it’s generally on the money that the Galaxy S9 and the larger Galaxy S9+ will have different rear camera setups. Based on leaked renders and other leaks, the Galaxy S9 will likely feature a single 12-MP camera with the ability to mechanically alter its aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4. In the case of the S9+, it’s been seen with a dual camera array oriented vertically on the phone with the second camera likely offering optical zoom, if the existing Galaxy Note8 camera setup is any indication.
The purported Galaxy S9 camera samples shown here ought to be taken with a grain of salt as they lack EXIF data or any other clues that may indicate it is taken from a Galaxy S9. Still, it’s a tantalising teaser to their next magnum opus ahead of Mobile World Congress 2018 that’s in keeping with their tagline for the S9 about ‘The Camera. Reimagined’.
