New budget Samsung Galaxy Watch FE offers sleep, workout and heart rate tracking for just RM799
The new Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch7 series are taking the limelight in the wake of the recent Galaxy Unpacked launch in Paris but they still have plenty of surprises left for the year, chief among them being the surprise release of the budget Galaxy Watch FE in Malaysia that offers much of the functionality of their higher-end siblings but at a more modest price tag of RM799.
What is the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE?
The Galaxy Watch FE weighs about 26.6g and comes with a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED rounded display, runs on an Exynos W920 dual-core 1.18GHz processor running Wear OS with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage and has a 247mAh battery.
While it is certainly more affordable, it is also surprisingly functional and durable. The AMOLED display is protected by Sapphire Crystal Glass to prevent nicks and scratches and the chassis is rated for 5ATM immersion in water which means it’s good for laps in the pool, has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and has a robust MIL-STD-810G rating for shock and drops too. This makes it as tough as the Watch6 series.
In terms of functionality, the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE supports sleep coaching and tracking along with heart health monitoring, heart rate alerts, blood pressure and ECG too. On the fitness front, the Galaxy Watch FE also supports tracking for over 100 different workouts and has an advanced running analysis mode to optimise running performance. It even has fall detection and can alert emergency services in the unlikely event the owner falls .
There’s even a Body Composition mode that helps to track how much of the weight you’re lugging around is muscle or fat. Fans of cashless transactions will also appreciate the fact that it supports Samsung Wallet too.
While LTE versions exist, Samsung is currently offering the Bluetooth-only variants for now in Malaysia priced at RM799 in your choice of Pink Gold, Black and strangely a shade of Silver with light blue straps.
