Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 makes global debut with better hardware, slimmer profile and up to 512GB storage
Revealed alongside the Galaxy Z Fold4 at the latest Samsung Unpacked August 2022 event that took place simultaneously in New York as well as a live stream across the globe, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is a more refined and elegant successor to the Galaxy Z Flip3.
Much like the Galaxy Z Flip3, the Galaxy Z Flip4 is intended as a more mainstream foldable phone with its clamshell design and proved to be an incredibly popular foldable that sold more than the Fold3 did. Samsung isn’t diverging much from its successful formula but has further refined it with better aspect ratios, a slightly larger Cover display and a larger sensor for the dual camera array.
What’s new with the Galaxy Z Flip4
Table of Contents
The phone is slightly smaller by 1.2mm up top and 1.5mm on the sides when folded down and weighs just 187g which makes it more pocketable and compact. Like its predecessor, it’s also rated IPX8 which ensures that it is able to survive for up to 30 minutes in 1.5m of fresh water and uses Armor Aluminium for the chassis to enhance its resistance against nicks and dents.
In terms of overall improvements, the main 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz folding display has 0.3mm slimmer top bezels and 0.8mm slimmer side bezels to offer a 22:9 aspect ratio.
The resolution hasn’t changed for the main folding display and is still Full HD+ with 2,640 x 1080 pixels resolution and offering a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. A tiny punch hole in the top – or left if you’re holding it landscape style – hides a front-facing 10MP selfie camera.
The front Cover Super AMOLED display has a slight bump in size to 1.9-inches and has enhanced functionality with a Quick Shot mode for taking quick shots on the main dual cameras by using it as a viewfinder, new clock designs to place on the screen, additional new themes and the ability to now offer quick replies for texts.
Under the hood, the Flip4 runs the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor as the Fold4, 5G connectivity as standard, Android 12 and One UI4.1.1 under the hood paired with a more modest 8GB RAM and either 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage.
The rear dual camera has a similar setup with a 12MP F/1.8 primary camera with Dual Pixel autofocus and OIS as well an upgrade to a slightly larger 1.8μm pixels on the sensor and a 12MP F/2.2 ultra wide angle camera.
The Galaxy Z Flip4 also has the biggest improvement of all over its predecessor – a slightly larger 3,700mAh battery – a 12% increase over the Flip3 – with 25W fast charging, reverse wireless charging and wireless charging too. Unfortunately, there’s no charger issued with the box so you’ll have to acquire your own.
On top of the customary swath of colourways, the Galaxy Z Flip4 now allows you to order a Bespoke Edition variant where you can customise the top and bottom section as well as the hinge with a number of potential colours with up to 75 possible combinations.
If the Bespoke Edition doesn’t pique your fancy, you can acquire it in the more standard shades of Graphite, Pink Gold, Bora Purple and Blue with your choice of 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage.
