Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 First Look – New colours and Exynos 2600 processor take the lead
Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and the passport-sized Galaxy Z Fold8, Samsung also launched a refresh of their clamshell-style foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip8 at their Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London.
We managed to get a closer look at their mainstream foldable alongside their other offerings that include the Galaxy Watch9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Here’s our Galaxy Z Flip8 first look where we share our first impressions of the phone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 First Look – Build and Design
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip7 from last year and enjoys the same clamshell form factor as its predecessor with roughly the same dimensions and screen sizes though it is lighter and slightly slimmer. Where the prior Galaxy Z Flip7 weighed 187g and was about 6.5mm thin when unfolded, the new Galaxy Z Flip8 has managed to shave the weight down to just 180g and is just 6.1mm thin, which makes it one of, if not the thinnest clamshell-style foldable currently in the market.

Beyond the weight savings, the Galaxy Z Flip8 retains the same 4,300mAh battery and 25W wired and 15W wireless charging speeds as the prior model. The displays also retain the same dimensions with the front featuring a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 948 x 1048 pixels resolution and featuring a 60/120Hz refresh rate and a similar 2,600 nits peak brightness. The cameras are also identical with a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS and a 12MP f/2.2 ultra wide angle camera.
The main folding display features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that features a 1080 x 2,520 pixels resolution with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and a small punch hole for a 10MP selfie camera.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Flip8 uses the Exynos 2600 processor over the Flip7’s Exynos 2500 processor paired with 12GB RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage.
On paper, the Exynos 2600 is a flagship decacore chipset built on the industry’s first 2nm GAA process with improved performance and 113% better generative AI performance compared to its predecessor the Exynos 2500. The Exynos 2600 also has 50% better ray tracing performance and introduces a Heat Path Block (HPB) that improves thermal dissipation efficiency for better sustained performance.
Like the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra, it runs the latest Android 17 with One UI 9.0 and also supports DeX mode which lets it turn into a mini PC of sorts when wirelessly paired with a display and a mouse as well as a keyboard.
Astute readers will note that there aren’t many radical upgrades with the Galaxy Z Flip8, with most of Samsung’s efforts devoted to improving the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
They may play a bit on the price to make it a more tempting option for mainstream users but it’s too early to tell as there are no pricing details yet at the time of writing and prices in Malaysia typically vary slightly from that at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 due to different currencies, import duties and the like.
At the Galaxy Z Flip8 preview, Samsung showcased three colourways – Graphite, Cream and a pastel shade of Pink. A Mint colourway will be an online exclusive but was unavailable at the preview.
In terms of pricing, the Galaxy Z Flip9 is priced at RM5,399 for the 256GB variant and RM6,199 for the 512GB variant.
